- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Revised National Development Plan: Discussion (3 Nov 2021)
Darren O'Rourke: I will move straight into questions. On a question to the NTA, can I get an update on the Navan rail project? We were expecting a review to be completed and published in July and it is now November. Where is the review and when will we see it? When will we see the greater Dublin area, GDA, transport strategy consultation?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Revised National Development Plan: Discussion (3 Nov 2021)
Darren O'Rourke: What is the NTA's understanding, based on the provisions of the national development plan, of the prospective timeline for the Navan rail line?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Revised National Development Plan: Discussion (3 Nov 2021)
Darren O'Rourke: Therefore, next Tuesday, we are seeing the GDA consultation go out and there is the timeline in terms of when that GDA consultation becomes enshrined policy.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Revised National Development Plan: Discussion (3 Nov 2021)
Darren O'Rourke: I thank Ms Graham. Connecting Ireland is extremely ambitious, which is welcome. There is consultation at the moment but it is planned to expand services between 2022 and 2025. What will that expansion look like year on year? Will we see a lot in 2022? How much funding has been provided?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Revised National Development Plan: Discussion (3 Nov 2021)
Darren O'Rourke: What will that deliver?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Revised National Development Plan: Discussion (3 Nov 2021)
Darren O'Rourke: What criteria were used? Will every county fair well or is prioritisation based on rurality? What case is made when prioritising?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Revised National Development Plan: Discussion (3 Nov 2021)
Darren O'Rourke: I am sure Ms Graham is aware, because many people in the Meath area have raised it, of the 109A service to Dublin City University, DCU. The case made by the NTA to curtail the service following a review in January was that congestion on the leg between Dublin Airport and DCU and on the way back impacted on punctuality. The curtailment is extremely frustrating. I get the 103A bus and it...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Revised National Development Plan: Discussion (3 Nov 2021)
Darren O'Rourke: One would not ask people on the 103 bus to get off at Glasnevin.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Revised National Development Plan: Discussion (3 Nov 2021)
Darren O'Rourke: I thank Ms Graham for her response. My next questions are for Mr. Walsh. It has been mentioned that the Slane bypass meets the criteria. There are important projects in my area such as at Kilmoon Cross and along the N3 and the M50. There is a long list of additional projects and it has been said that €1 billion will be spent between now and 2025 and €5.1 billion to 2030....
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Revised National Development Plan: Discussion (3 Nov 2021)
Darren O'Rourke: I am glad that Slane is going to be bypassed. The local authority made a good case for that. Kilmoon Cross is a good case in point. The project is at an early stage of development. People will know about Kilmoon Cross as it is mentioned every morning and evening in the AA Roadwatch bulletin. The proposal does not sound like it will include a motorway bypass link. What solution will TII...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Revised National Development Plan: Discussion (3 Nov 2021)
Darren O'Rourke: Will the projects be strung along for a period or be taken off that track and put on a different track?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Revised National Development Plan: Discussion (3 Nov 2021)
Darren O'Rourke: My question is for the representatives of the NTA. I will follow up on a previous question about the roll-out of Connecting Ireland. Some 10% of that programme is set to be rolled out in 2022. Is there a prescribed budget for that programme over the period 2022 to 2025? If 10% is to be completed next year, that leaves 90% to be made up in the following two years.
