Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Cardiovascular Health, Stroke and Heart Attack: Discussion (13 Dec 2023)

Neasa Hourigan: I thank the witnesses for coming before the committee. I will start with that issue as to where this sits within the system, which I know can be a bit dry in terms of what is actually happening. It is striking that there is a lot of frustration in the room. Usually, when we have advocates for a particular area come in, and they all agree on the shortfall or the shortcomings in our approach...

It strikes me that there is a parallel between type 1 and type 2 diabetes. We have had a very successful approach to type 1 with...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Cardiovascular Health, Stroke and Heart Attack: Discussion (13 Dec 2023)

Neasa Hourigan: Is that the kind of thing Ms O'Shea would like to see for people who have congenital issues with which they have to live for ever and ever?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Cardiovascular Health, Stroke and Heart Attack: Discussion (13 Dec 2023)

Neasa Hourigan: Ms O'Shea is a very good advocate for her group. I know I am out of time but I will just propose that we write to the CMO and the HSE. There absolutely should be a patient advocate or representative involved in any programme like this.
