- Seanad: Order of Business (28 Mar 2007)
Camillus Glynn: It is Senator Hayes who is talking nonsense.
- Seanad: Health Bill 2006: Committee Stage (27 Mar 2007)
Camillus Glynn: It is worth bearing in mind that many well-qualified people of all persuasions are members of local authorities. One finds doctors, nurses, surgeons and dentists. Need I go on? As has been said, and I think the case speaks for itself, we are not saying that they should become members of the Health Information and Quality Authority, but it should not be enshrined in law that they be...
- Seanad: Health Bill 2006: Committee Stage (27 Mar 2007)
Camillus Glynn: Absolutely.
- Seanad: Health Bill 2006: Committee Stage (27 Mar 2007)
Camillus Glynn: I ask the Minister to take cognisance of what I and others have said in regard to section 85(1)(d). The section states: "A member of the Board of the Authority or a member of a committee of the Board of the Authority immediately ceases to hold office on ... becoming a member of a local authority." It is not a reasonable provision and I ask that it be deleted.

Camillus Glynn: Next Thursday.
- Seanad: Order of Business (27 Mar 2007)
Camillus Glynn: I, too, appreciate the deal that has been brokered. It is an historic deal and I never thought I would see the day on which it was made. Now that I have, I am very pleased to be a Member of this House, and to have shared membership of the Oireachtas with individuals who have pushed out the boat and trod where others feared to tread. It is a great day, and long may the new developments last.
- Seanad: Health Bill 2006: Committee Stage (27 Mar 2007)
Camillus Glynn: Section 13(3) refers to people who cannot be members of the board and section 13(3)(c) specifically excludes a member of a local authority, which is unjust.
- Seanad: Health Bill 2006: Committee Stage (27 Mar 2007)
Camillus Glynn: Is there something inherently wrong with being a member of a local authority? Are they great big ogres? They are the finest people who give the greatest service to the people in the interest of democracy as they have done since the inception of the State and beforehand. This is unfair and I ask the Minister of State to reconsider it with a view to introducing an amendment on Report Stage....
- Seanad: Health Bill 2006: Second Stage (23 Mar 2007)
Camillus Glynn: Ba mhaith liom fáilte a chur roimh an Aire Stáit. I welcome the Bill and the opportunity to speak on it, as it is an example of how the Minister is forging ahead with necessary change. As we all know, this Bill is a fundamental part of the health reform programme begun by the former Minister for Health and Children, Deputy Martin, in 2003 and continued by the current Minister, Deputy...
- Seanad: Health Bill 2006: Second Stage (23 Mar 2007)
Camillus Glynn: Operational details are a matter for employees and not for the Minister of the day or Members of this House. People who are paid to do a job in an institution or a hospital should do it and not depend on the Minister.
- Seanad: Order of Business (23 Mar 2007)
Camillus Glynn: Every time one turns on the television or radio or one picks up a newspaper, there is something about the upcoming general election. In 1991 we were in election mode when, in the dead of night, the house of a person who was mandated to his local town council and to his county council was broken into and he was brutally murdered. I refer to the late Councillor Eddie Fullerton. That was...
- Seanad: Pharmacy Bill 2007: Committee Stage (Resumed) and Remaining Stages (22 Mar 2007)
Camillus Glynn: I thank the Minister and her officials and the Members on all sides of the House who have contributed in a positive way to bringing forward this legislation which consigns the previous older legislation. I commend the IPU and the IPS and the hospital pharmacists, who are often forgotten, on their input. They have made a very positive contribution and lobbied in a realistic and responsible...
- Seanad: Pharmacy Bill 2007: Committee Stage (Resumed) and Remaining Stages (22 Mar 2007)
Camillus Glynn: The Senator should change his glasses.
- Seanad: Pharmacy Bill 2007: Committee Stage (Resumed) and Remaining Stages (22 Mar 2007)
Camillus Glynn: I have certain concerns. It is not unheard of for people to make baseless accusations against professional people, including pharmacists. The problem would be with the complainant. If it were held in public, we would have the old concept of no smoke without fire. It is covered sufficiently and a certain amount of reserved wisdom must apply in this case. I am concerned for any...

- Seanad: Pharmacy Bill 2007: Second Stage (20 Mar 2007)
Camillus Glynn: Innocent.
- Seanad: Pharmacy Bill 2007: Second Stage (20 Mar 2007)
Camillus Glynn: I welcome the Minister. I commend her on introducing this important legislation, which is in keeping with her reforming role within the Department. She has stepped into the breach where others have feared to tread. A review of the existing pharmacy legislation was needed, since it has been on the Statute Book for more than 130 years. A Bill was introduced in 1962, which provided for...
