- Order of Business (6 Dec 2016)
Aindrias Moynihan: There is a commitment in the programme for Government to protecting local services, in particular in respect of the transport network where the Government acknowledges the importance of the bus for older and vulnerable people. It also speaks about examining how existing routes can be made more sustainable. Locals are in fear of the Cork-Tralee No. 40 express bus, which serves Ballyvourney...
- Order of Business (6 Dec 2016)
Aindrias Moynihan: -----go mbainfidh amach an bus sin atá ag freastal ar Bhaile Bhuirne agus Baile Mhic Íre. Can the Taoiseach give assurances to passengers travelling to and from Ballyvourney and Ballymakeera that any change in bus services will not result in a downgrading of services?
- Cannabis for Medicinal Use (Regulations) Bill 2016: Second Stage [Private Members] (1 Dec 2016)
Aindrias Moynihan: I support the Bill and thank Deputy Gino Kenny for bringing it to the House. It is a number of years since I first met Vera Twomey, a constituent of mine from Aghabullogue. Her daughter, Ava, suffers from Dravet syndrome, a rare form of epilepsy. It is a very severe condition characterised by repeated, violent and multiple seizures every day. The family have tried various medicines...
- Topical Issue Debate: Waste Disposal Charges (1 Dec 2016)
Aindrias Moynihan: I have one example where it is 30 kg.
- Topical Issue Debate: Waste Disposal Charges (1 Dec 2016)
Aindrias Moynihan: Earlier this summer, in response to widespread concern about the way the domestic pay-by-weight system was being introduced, Fianna Fáil called on the Minister to implement a transition period for the system to ensure householders were fully informed and were able to plan financially for the expected charges. One of the key features of the agreement that was put together in June of this...
- Topical Issue Debate: Waste Disposal Charges (1 Dec 2016)
Aindrias Moynihan: I put it to the Minister of State that enforcement is needed. Waste companies are either charging under the pay-by-weight system or they are not. It is a black and white matter. It is clear that waste companies are charging by the kilogramme even though they are not supposed to do so until next year. I suggest the Government needs to take action in this respect. The Minister of State...
- Other Questions: Hospital Waiting Lists (1 Dec 2016)
Aindrias Moynihan: 12. To ask the Minister for Health the measures being taken to obtain outpatient appointments for the 11,468 persons waiting more than a year in Cork hospitals in October 2016. [38033/16]
- Other Questions: Hospital Waiting Lists (1 Dec 2016)
Aindrias Moynihan: A total of 11,468 people have been waiting for outpatient appointments in Cork for more than a year. That is across a range of specialties. Earlier this year, I raised with the Minister the position regarding gynaecological services in Cork, which has the largest waiting list for those services and which is far ahead of anywhere else in the country. Women in need of those services are...
- Other Questions: Hospital Waiting Lists (1 Dec 2016)
Aindrias Moynihan: While people are languishing on waiting lists they have diminished quality of life. Their distress and anxiety must be unimaginable. There is significant suffering and it is cruelly compounded by that long wait. Those outpatient waiting lists are causing delayed diagnosis of cancers and other serious conditions. While we can consider the different statistics, I am seeing the real people...
- Other Questions: Hospital Waiting Lists (1 Dec 2016)
Aindrias Moynihan: I thank the Minister for those details. For each of those people, and their families, who are on that waiting list suffering significantly, there is a fear of a delayed diagnosis of cancers and other conditions. We have already seen the different reports. We know there was plan for a one-stop-shop for gynaecological services in Cork. That needs to be acted on. When I raised this issue...
- Written Answers — Department of Health: Occupational Therapy (1 Dec 2016)
Aindrias Moynihan: 29. To ask the Minister for Health the action being taken to address the fact that latest figures indicate some 1,049 persons under 18 years of age are waiting more than a year for a first time assessment for occupational therapy in counties Cork and Kerry. [38032/16]
- Flood Insurance Bill 2016: Second Stage [Private Members] (29 Nov 2016)
Aindrias Moynihan: I welcome the Bill introduced by Deputy Michael McGrath. It is a positive Bill which aims to ease the financial burden on home and business owners who are unable to get reasonable insurance due to flooding concerns. Insurance companies should not be allowed to discriminate against homes and businesses in areas of the standard one in one hundred year flood risk or even better. In my own...
- Other Questions: Flood Relief Schemes Status (24 Nov 2016)
Aindrias Moynihan: The details the Minister of State has laid out are helpful. It is difficult for residents who saw exhibitions in 2011 and draft designs in 2014 to feel the scheme has not advanced in the meantime and may still be moving more slowly. They have a constant fear of flooding. To see another development no more than 100 m from the riverbank moving along and receiving planning permission without...
- Other Questions: Flood Prevention Measures (24 Nov 2016)
Aindrias Moynihan: 22. To ask the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform the amount spent in each of the past three years on the Baile Mhúirne flood defences; the funding in place to advance same; if this is sufficient to complete the construction; and the next step in the works. [36370/16]
- Other Questions: Flood Prevention Measures (24 Nov 2016)
Aindrias Moynihan: The flood defences in Baile Bhuirne were part of the pilot scheme for the CFRAM programme throughout the country. For several years considerable background work was carried out on it. How much will that work cost and how soon will it benefit people in Baile Bhuirne?
- Other Questions: Flood Prevention Measures (24 Nov 2016)
Aindrias Moynihan: Is the "period up to 2020" the timeframe for detailed design stage or to move to construction?
- Other Questions: Flood Relief Schemes Status (24 Nov 2016)
Aindrias Moynihan: 21. To ask the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform the steps he is taking to advance detailed design of the Baile Bhuirne flood defences; and when the scheme will advance to construction. [36369/16]
- Other Questions: Flood Relief Schemes Status (24 Nov 2016)
Aindrias Moynihan: Flood defences at Baile Bhuirne have been discussed for many years and were part of the original CFRAM pilot programme. There were exhibitions in November 2011 and draft designs were advanced in 2014. Householders are being flooded repeatedly in the absence of flood defences and need to see progress. They need peace of mind and protection from floods.
- Other Questions: Flood Relief Schemes Status (24 Nov 2016)
Aindrias Moynihan: It seems that the scheme has not advanced a great deal in the past one or two years. The freshwater pearl mussel has always been in the river and we have lived together for a long time. It is important that the mussel be protected, but the proposed defences are not in the river but up river banks, set back some distance and with walls. They should have minimum impact and the freshwater...

Aindrias Moynihan: 66. To ask the Minister for Justice and Equality when the construction of the new Garda station in Macroom, County Cork, will commence; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [36448/16]
