James Lawless: I might advance my own view that it is a useful tool for a court at the moment and it deals with cases where a custodial sentence has not been passed down but where there is a need for some intervention. It is currently available to the Bench to do that and it is often done. It is a very practical measure. I would be a little concerned, therefore, if there was to be a lacuna in the law...
