Alan Farrell: I wish to add to Senator Noone's remarks. We have talked about vending machines in schools previously. I hope they are rare at primary level. However, they are not rare at secondary level. I was on the boards of a couple of schools and they were in one of them. Alan Farrell: Clearly, a vending machine supplying healthier alternatives will not be availed of as often as a regular vending machine that only stocks confectionery. We must research whether the healthier alternative is sustainable. I thank Dr. McCrory for his comments. I apologise to Deputy Funchion for taking a bit of her time and ask her to commence.

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Children and Youth Affairs: Tackling Childhood Obesity: Discussion (Resumed) (2 May 2018)
Alan Farrell: Convenience food and dashboard dining are things that perhaps should be discussed more widely. I do not want to force a societal issue on one group of individuals, but I believe retailers have a role to play in this, in terms of trying to promote healthier eating. Alan Farrell: I do not have an issue with that. I would have thought the sectoral Minister of State with responsibility for food promotion would probably be the first port of call, and we could go from there.
