Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Situation at Dublin Airport: Discussion (26 Jul 2022)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: What sort of numbers?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Situation at Dublin Airport: Discussion (26 Jul 2022)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: I accept that there are difficulties. Does Mr. O'Neill have any notion of the number of bags that are missing or the number for which owners cannot be found?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Situation at Dublin Airport: Discussion (26 Jul 2022)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: Another thing that will be happening is people making contact with the airline regarding cancelled flights. I am particularly interested in cases where people are trying to fly to and from a destination, either on the same day or over two days. They are rebooked but, unfortunately, sometimes they are rebooked when the event is over. What is the rebooking policy? How is it working at this...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Situation at Dublin Airport: Discussion (26 Jul 2022)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: I imagine that there are no plans to cap the number of people travelling into Dublin Airport at this point in time. Is the DAA considering anything like that?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Situation at Dublin Airport: Discussion (26 Jul 2022)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: It has been said before that by the time the DAA has a full complement of staff, it would be around mid-August when it would become fully operationally sound. Is that still the case?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Situation at Dublin Airport: Discussion (26 Jul 2022)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: Does Mr. Harrison think that the DAA will make it through the rest of the summer while accepting that there will be difficulties?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Situation at Dublin Airport: Discussion (26 Jul 2022)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: Mr. Tully and Mr. Moloney spoke about solutions such as the temporary escort passes and the licensing issue and getting non-EU licences for some of their workers to enable them to work. What interaction has there been with the Department of Transport and the NDLS on anything close to a solution? I ask because I imagine that we have some agreements with some non-EU countries.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Situation at Dublin Airport: Discussion (26 Jul 2022)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: Is that sufficient?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Situation at Dublin Airport: Discussion (26 Jul 2022)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: I imagine that Mr. Tully will say the same about that.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Situation at Dublin Airport: Discussion (26 Jul 2022)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: I would like an answer to my question about the licence issue.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Situation at Dublin Airport: Discussion (26 Jul 2022)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: These people can drive on national roads outside of the airport.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Situation at Dublin Airport: Discussion (26 Jul 2022)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: That sounds like another issue. I have somebody from the North who is trying to get a taxi licence in the South and could not at this point in time but one would want to see the answer that was received. We need to chase up this matter as these are obvious fixes that can improve the situation at Dublin Airport and I acknowledge that this is not a perfect situation.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Situation at Dublin Airport: Discussion (26 Jul 2022)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: Ms Embleton spoke about the difficulties being caused by people arriving early to check-in. The advice is still two and a half hours for short haul, three and a half hours for long haul, plus an hour for bag drop or whatever else. However, Mr. Harrison said people should contact the airline in relation to when they will be opening. We need to give clarified advice on this and what will...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Situation at Dublin Airport: Discussion (26 Jul 2022)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: From Ms Embleton's point of view, is the advice still to contact the airline? Or would you prefer not to get any more calls?

Green Hydrogen Strategy Bill 2022: Second Stage [Private Members] (14 Jul 2022)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: Anytime I have ever promised to hand time back I have made a liar of myself so I will not make that promise now. It is around this time that I make my apologies to the Leas-Cheann Comhairle, the Ceann Comhairle and the wider staff of Leinster House and thank them very much for how much they enable me. I have added my apologies for the times when I do possibly test people but these things...

Summer Economic Statement: Statements (Resumed) (14 Jul 2022)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: We are waiting.

Summer Economic Statement: Statements (Resumed) (14 Jul 2022)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: Deputy Andrews, Deputy McGuinness and Deputy Kenny dealt with some of the realities of the world people are living in. It is a matter of the services that are not being dealt with. It is a matter of failures over many years, such as CervicalCheck, thalidomide and women dealing with the mesh issue. It is a matter of disability services and mental health services. We are all dealing with...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Cost of Living Issues (14 Jul 2022)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: I refer to the GPRN. We need to look at that facility. Anomalies will arise from time to time.

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Cost of Living Issues (14 Jul 2022)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: 85. To ask the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection the actions that she will take to urgently address spiralling coal costs to support families facing huge pressures taking into consideration the recently published report by an organisation (details supplied); and if she will make a statement on the matter. [34886/22]

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Cost of Living Issues (14 Jul 2022)

Ruairí Ó Murchú: There will be repetition with many of these questions. A large number of people are under severe pressure whether it is because of the cost of home heating oil, solid fuel or the spike in electricity prices. They will need some detail soon. We cannot wait until the day before the budget to find out what necessary mitigations are proposed for the conditions we have now.
