Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Compliance with the Nitrates Directive and Implications for Ireland: Discussion (14 Feb 2024)

Joe Flaherty: Before the Chair moves on, as I said, we want to hold on to this but in the interest of farming and rural communities we serve, we have to take this battle to the others. It is very important, and I will write to the secretariat of the housing committee next week and get both organisations back with regard to the planning issues, and specifically on the slurry issue. It is going to be a key...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Compliance with the Nitrates Directive and Implications for Ireland: Discussion (14 Feb 2024)

Joe Flaherty: I am not sure if this question is for the ICMSA or the IFA, but I want to ask about the number of inspections that a farmer can have over a year, whether he is in ACRES or other schemes or is a certified food producer. Vote 30 - Agriculture, Food and the Marine (Revised)
(31 Jan 2024)

Joe Flaherty: I thank the Minister and his officials for coming in. I will touch on two points, some aspects of which have already been covered. We are getting the payment up to the equivalent of €20 per ewe. While it is very positive, I still encourage the...

Select Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Estimates for Public Services 2024
Vote 30 - Agriculture, Food and the Marine (Revised)
(31 Jan 2024)

Joe Flaherty: Maths was never my strong point, but payments in ACRES average at about €4,000, so if there is an additional 5,000 farmers that could potentially be excluded based on what the Minister indicated so far to us and to media, we are probably talking in the region of an additional €5 million to generate an awful lot of goodwill in the farming community and to bring many of those...
