Neale Richmond: I thank the witnesses and the members for the efficiency in testimony and questioning this morning. We have covered a great deal. I am very grateful to all witnesses who have attended, particularly those who have travelled a considerable distance to be here. As we have said to previous witnesses this is very much a live process. The committee will continue to be active for the next six...

Neale Richmond: On behalf of the committee, I welcome Mr. Eamon Gilmore, former Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade. We are delighted to hear from him on this most important issue facing Ireland. Members are reminded of the long-standing parliamentary practice to the effect that they should not comment on, criticise or make charges against a person outside the Houses or an official,...

Neale Richmond: I thank Mr. Gilmore for his thoughtful and detailed presentation. It is appreciated by all committee members and will play a very important part in our work. Trade was a very important aspect of Mr. Gilmore's former portfolio. Where will Ireland have future trade opportunities around the world? How can it channel its membership of the EU to pass possible future trade deals with...

Neale Richmond: My sincere thanks to Mr. Gilmore, not only for his opening address but also for his detailed responses. A considerable number of questions were put to him. We put him through the ringer somewhat, but I think he answered them in detail. He gave fact-based answers that will play an important part in the report we will write. He is always welcome to come back if he thinks of something that...

Neale Richmond: I thank the Cathaoirleach for the opportunity to speak on this issue. I am very grateful to the Minister for coming to the House and I also thank him and his officials for their engagement with me on this and many other issues in the educational sphere in recent weeks. - Seanad: Commencement Matters: Schools Building Projects Status (10 May 2017)
Neale Richmond: No problem. I thank the Minister for his very thorough response. I understand the many constraints in terms of his position. Some of the questions I posed were perhaps direct but they were deliberately so and that is a direct response to the deep levels of frustration among that school community. A Department official said to the principal that her role is to keep the school community...
- Seanad: Order of Business (9 May 2017)
Neale Richmond: I thank Senator McDowell for that perfect primer to what I am about to say. Some people might not be aware that today is Europe Day, 67 years on since Robert Schumann wrote his very massive declaration which sets out everything that European integration has grown to become, bringing peace to this continent. I agree with Senator McDowell's proposal but I would like the Leader to call in the...

- Seanad Committee on the Withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union: Engagement with the Bar of Ireland (4 May 2017)
Neale Richmond: I apologise for cutting across Mr. Leonard. My query concerned actual practising barristers and law firms. It might be too soon to tell, but has he seen an increase in, or is there evidence of, people practising at the Bar in the UK deciding that perhaps they should relocate to Dublin? Will it be a little more lucrative, for want of a better word?
- Seanad Committee on the Withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union: Engagement with the Bar of Ireland (4 May 2017)
Neale Richmond: If no one else is offering to contribute, I sincerely thank all four witnesses for coming forward. They have given us very significant food for thought and I commend them. They have given us real, tangible opportunities and solutions that we can feed into our end piece of work. As I mentioned to our previous panel, this is an evolving process and an evolving document. Things will change...
