Joint Oireachtas Committee on European Union Affairs: Terror Attacks in Paris: Discussion (26 Nov 2015)

Seán Kyne: I welcome the ambassador. Like others, I wish to express my sympathy on a personal basis. I also wish to express solidarity with the French people. It is good that there was a minute's silence in the Dáil to remember the victims and in sympathy with their families and the French people. It is truly horrific that young people who were out and about for the evening, young families and...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on European Union Affairs: Work Programme 2016: European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development (26 Nov 2015)

Seán Kyne: I welcome the Commissioner, Ms Nolan and Mr. Keary to the meeting. The Commissioner mentioned roaming charges. If they were sorted by 2017 or sooner, it would be a positive indication of the role of the Commission and the European Parliament in changing something that directly affects many people. The meeting was very impressive. There was an...

Other Questions: Startup Gathering (26 Nov 2015)

Seán Kyne: Start-up companies have created up to two-thirds of the jobs created in the past five years - that is, around 90,000 jobs - so it is a very important sector. The Minister of State must be familiar with the PorterShed initiative in Galway; he may have visited it. It is a space for people setting up companies to work together. There are several other such initiatives, especially in the large...

Other Questions: Strategic Banking Corporation of Ireland (18 Nov 2015)

Seán Kyne: I thank the Minister for his reply. Does he envisage any increased role for the credit unions in respect of SME lending? There has been speculation about this and there was a pilot programme in Kilkenny. Does the Minister envisage any role, maybe not at the level of €5 million but for smaller loans because credit unions are very interested in getting involved in this area?
