- Financial Resolution No. 15: (General) (Resumed) (23 Oct 2008)
Mary O'Rourke: I have much more to say before I give way to my distinguished colleague from Carlow-Kilkenny, Deputy Aylward. The agricultural community is gearing up for difficult times and public meetings are being called. I hear from Athlone that there were five meetings on one night, with three for teachers and two for farmers. We will need helicopters to get around to all the meetings but we will go.
- Financial Resolution No. 15: (General) (Resumed) (23 Oct 2008)
Mary O'Rourke: I always faced up to people wherever there were difficulties. It does not cause me joy to do so but neither does it cause me unrest or disquiet. I am convinced the country is worth backing up now in order that we can come through the difficulties and emerge at the other end. I thank the Acting Chairman for listening and giving me the time. I will give way to my colleague, Deputy Aylward,...

- Unemployment: Motion (Resumed) (8 Oct 2008)
Mary O'Rourke: I welcome the opportunity to contribute to the debate. I thank my constituency colleague, Deputy Penrose, for tabling the original motion. It has been a worrying and sad feature of constituency clinics during the past six months that one has been visited by sensible men and women who have either lost their jobs or are about to lose them. I never fail to be struck by the poignancy of what...

- Electoral (Amendment) Bill 2008: Second Stage (Resumed). (25 Sep 2008)
Mary O'Rourke: I am sorry for the Leas-Cheann Comhairle. If we are to be lumped into another constituency, that is fair enough. We will go where we are sent. If we are part of the North-West constituency we will be glad to participate as that constituency in the forthcoming European election. All of these changes are useful tidying-up procedures which have to be carried out, and fair dues to the Minister...

- Electoral (Amendment) Bill 2008: Second Stage (Resumed). (25 Sep 2008)
Mary O'Rourke: I welcome the Bill and the opportunity to contribute to this debate. I am aware that the inclination is for everybody to speak about their own constituency, as Deputy Noonan did so eloquently. Clearly there is cause for debate in regard to what he said. However, I bring the attention of the House to what occasioned the setting up of an independent boundaries commission. I was not elected...
