- Planning and Development (Amendment) Bill [Seanad] 2009: Report and Final Stages (1 Jul 2010)
Paul Gogarty: On what Deputy Hogan said on the national spatial strategy, while I do not agree with the amendment the Minister should take on board the issue of whether it needs to be reviewed. It has been in place for a considerable length of time. The anecdotal evidence suggests that the problem was not with the strategy but that it was not being implemented properly because of inappropriate decisions...

Paul Gogarty: I oppose the amendment and ask Deputy Hogan if the lessons have been learned. When the Minister, Deputy Gormley, had to intervene in County Mayo a letter of protest was sent by Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil councillors.

- Planning and Development (Amendment) Bill [Seanad] 2009: Report and Final Stages (1 Jul 2010)
Paul Gogarty: The point I am making is that the Minister needs the power to intervene where a locally made decision is not in line with the best wishes of the people of this country. We cannot allow little cabals to make their own rules in their respective areas. This is why we have basic laws for human, civil and animal rights. Planning is no different. We must have a basic level of good planning and...

- Wildlife (Amendment) Bill 2010: Committee and Remaining Stages (29 Jun 2010)
Paul Gogarty: This is already turning into a facetious debate.
- Wildlife (Amendment) Bill 2010: Committee and Remaining Stages (29 Jun 2010)
Paul Gogarty: I support section 1. The Bill is correctly entitled the Wildlife (Amendment) Bill because it amends existing legislation to ensure the right of particular domesticated animals to enjoy a stress-free existence. I wholeheartedly support the legislation.

Paul Gogarty: I have never heard such wanton balderdash in my life.
- Wildlife (Amendment) Bill 2010: Committee and Remaining Stages (29 Jun 2010)
Paul Gogarty: To suggest that the Adoption Bill or the Civil Partnership Bill, or any other legislation that is not fiscally-based, cannot be debated in this House is facetious. It is a failed argument used by those who cannot put forward a strong argument based on the legislation itself. Deputy Hogan said this is narrow legislation and I concur. It is so narrow we should not be spending more than two or...
- Wildlife (Amendment) Bill 2010: Committee and Remaining Stages (29 Jun 2010)
Paul Gogarty: The Government was very nearly brought down last October. Deputy Tuffy mentioned education - I had a leaflet outside schools in my constituency telling them they could rest assured that if education cuts were not reversed and education protected in the budget, we would not be in Government.
- Wildlife (Amendment) Bill 2010: Committee and Remaining Stages (29 Jun 2010)

- Wildlife (Amendment) Bill 2010: Committee and Remaining Stages (29 Jun 2010)
Paul Gogarty: People outside the Green Party might not realise that while this might be important to members of the party we know it is not a big issue and we wonder why it is being turned into such a divisive issue. There are much bigger issues to deal with and much bigger fish to fry, if one pardons the pun. The Labour Party takes donations from trade unions and is beholden to its paymasters just like...
- Wildlife (Amendment) Bill 2010: Committee and Remaining Stages (29 Jun 2010)
Paul Gogarty: This one modest piece of legislation, small as it may be, is getting a large number of Deputies cynically motivated and apoplectic. There are far bigger issues that we should be dealing with.
