- Seanad: Order of Business (23 May 2012)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: TacaÃm leis an éileamh atá déanta ag an Seanadóir O'Donovan maidir le dÃospóireacht eile a bheith againn ar an gconradh fioscach. Rinneamar roinnt plé ar an gconradh sin ach tá rudaà ag athrú gach lá agus bheadh sé fÃor-thábhachtach go mbeadh plé againn faoi Dé Máirt seo chugainn. I hope that it is not a case of Fianna Fáil getting ready, because they feel that the tide is...
- Seanad: Order of Business (23 May 2012)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: A debate would be welcome. I wish to mention that Africa Day will take place on Friday and congratulate the people for organising it. Today a very good conference is being held at Trinity College Dublin. It was organised by the Trinity International Development Initiative and deals with development issues in Africa. I also welcome the development of the Africa Agrifood Development Fund....
- Seanad: Order of Business (16 May 2012)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: AontaÃm leis an méid atá ráite ag na Seanadóirà Noone agus Keane maidir le shláinte mheabhrach na ndaoine óige. Tá sé fÃor-thábachtach go mbeadh dÃospóireacht againn. Lest we be dismayed about the power of the Seanad and its Senators, a number of Senators wield great power. Yesterday, Senators Healy Eames and Mullins called for the Occupy Galway encampment to be removed. Lo...
- Seanad: Order of Business (16 May 2012)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: It raises issues and questions. This morning I sought clarification from Galway City Council because we need a debate on peaceful protest. I was at a joint policing committee meeting in Galway city a few months ago when the chief superintendent categorically said that the encampment was not breaking the law. No one at the meeting, politicians or city council representative, was able to say...
- Seanad: Order of Business (16 May 2012)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: We see plenty of protest and my fear is that we will see much more. I welcome the Volvo Ocean Race coming to Galway, which is very important. However, the right of people to protest should not be overrun and it would appear we are learning much from the Chinese through the delegations sent over and back.
- Seanad: Order of Business (16 May 2012)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Hopefully the Chinese notion of clearing away protesters before the media come into town is not being taken up by this Government.
- Seanad: Order of Business (16 May 2012)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Senator Mullins should be honest.
- Seanad: Post Codes (15 May 2012)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Cuirim céad fáilte roimh an Aire. Is breá an rud é a fheiceáil arÃs sa Teach seo. Tá an cheist atá á ardú agam inniu ag dul siar roinnt mhaith blianta, ach nÃlim ag cur an locht faoi sin ar an Aire. Bhà caint ar an cheist seo i bhfad sula dtáinig sé isteach i rialtas. Baineann an cheist leis na cóid poist atá beartaithe don tÃr seo. The post code scenario in this State is...
- Seanad: Post Codes (15 May 2012)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: FáiltÃm roimh an soiléiriú sin, go háirithe an soiléiriú go bhfuil an tAire sásta go bhfuil an próiseas ar fad trédhearcach agus oscailte agus nach bhfuil aon rud as bealach. I welcome the fact the Minister has said he is happy with the process, that it is completely open and transparent and that there is nothing to worry about there. I appreciate he cannot go into too much detail...
- Seanad: Mortgage Arrears: Statements, Questions and Answers (15 May 2012)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Cuirim céad fáilte roimh an Aire Stáit agus ceist an-tábhachtach á phlé anseo. Bun agus barr an scéil ná go bhfuil daoine a bhfuil morgáistà acu ag aireachtáil an brú lá i ndiaidh lae agus faoi bhrú ag na bainc. Nà fheiceann siad go bhfuil an Rialtas seo ag déanamh tada fiúntach dóibh. Feiceann siad go bhfuil gach rud á dhéanamh ar son na banc, go bhfuil muid ag cur...
- Seanad: Order of Business (15 May 2012)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: It was not as if you had any protest during development.
- Seanad: Order of Business (15 May 2012)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Ba mhaith liom dÃospóireacht a lorg leis an Aire le freagracht don iascaireacht, an Teachta Coveney. Leis an gceart a thabhairt don Aire, bhà sé i gcónaà flaithiúil go leor lena chuid ama le teacht isteach agus plé a dhéanamh ar chúrsaà iascaireachta. Tá sé in am arÃs go labharfadh muid arÃs leis faoi, mar tá athraithe go leor beartaithe ag an tionscal sin, go háirithe...
- Seanad: Order of Business (15 May 2012)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: It is important we debate these issues in the Seanad. Perhaps there should not be so much concern about the Occupy Galway group. Come the Volvo Ocean race, I expect there will be many other people protesting at the cutbacks and the austerity measures being brought in by the Government. Attention should be focused on that rather than on the Occupy Galway people, who are protesting peacefully.
