Local Government (Roads Functions) Bill 2007: Second Stage (13 Nov 2007)

Tom Hayes: Deputy O'Connor was not listening carefully.

Local Government (Roads Functions) Bill 2007: Second Stage (13 Nov 2007)

Tom Hayes: When I noticed the Local Government (Roads Functions) Bill on this week's schedule, I was looking forward to learning of major proposals for the future of the road network. However, when I read the technical aspects of the Bill, I was disappointed. What is the future of the local improvement and the community involvement scheme? While these important schemes have had a large impact on many...

Dáil Reform. (7 Nov 2007)

Tom Hayes: That will not happen.

Dáil Reform. (7 Nov 2007)

Tom Hayes: I would like to know how to get the Taoiseach in here more often.

Dáil Reform. (7 Nov 2007)

Tom Hayes: With all due respect, it is a long time since the Taoiseach was a backbencher. The most frustrating thing for a backbencher in this House is the daily reading of requests to move the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32. When Deputies raise in a genuine fashion important matters relevant to their constituencies, they are ruled out of order. Time should be allocated every day...

Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 32 (7 Nov 2007)

Tom Hayes: I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to debate the following urgent matter: in light of the recent lack of confidence in the health system, it is of urgent public importance that the Minister for Health and Children confirm when the extra hospice bed in a specialised ward for South Tipperary General Hospital will be approved, as patients in distress are currently in a...

Undocumented Irish in the United States: Motion (6 Nov 2007)

Tom Hayes: I commend Deputy Ring on tabling this motion and, along with Deputy McGinley and others who travelled to the United States, for being so forthright in fighting for this cause. I welcome the opportunity to speak on the plight of Irish emigrants living in the United States. This is an issue about which I feel very strongly and about which many of my constituents are deeply concerned. At...

Land and Conveyancing Law Reform Bill 2006 [Seanad]: Second Stage (Resumed) (6 Nov 2007)

Tom Hayes: I thank the Minister of State and the Chair for allowing us to contribute. I wish to share time with Deputy Jimmy Deenihan.

Land and Conveyancing Law Reform Bill 2006 [Seanad]: Second Stage (Resumed) (6 Nov 2007)

Tom Hayes: I welcome the opportunity to speak on this very important Bill which deals with land registration and conveyancing. We have some reservations about the Bill and the manner in which it deals with complex and important areas of law. The law in this area has long been in need of reform. Solicitors deal with complex and confusing matters in standard land registration and conveyancing every day...

Agrifood Industry: Motion (Resumed) (24 Oct 2007)

Tom Hayes: I fully support the motion. The way the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food is handling the Brazilian beef issue is a total disgrace. It is unfair to the farming community, which has reacted responsibly over the years regarding traceability from birth to slaughter. Every movement of every animal in the State is documented to the minute.
