Protection of Life During Pregnancy Bill 2013: Report Stage (Resumed) (10 Jul 2013)

Joan Collins: As far as I am aware, GPs are covered under the Medical Council in respect of ethics and so on. Why is the obstetrician there? Just being registered with the Medical Council is not a good enough reason to explain why an obstetrician is included and a GP is not included. I do not accept what the Minister of State is saying and I do not see why he cannot accept the amendment.

Joan Collins: I refer to amendment No. 60, the amendment we tabled in this grouping. It takes up the issue of the classification of "an unborn human life" and substitutes "a pregnancy". It tries to take out the worst elements of this Bill in terms of handling the situation of a woman, because that is what it should be about. The points have been made. Protection of Life During Pregnancy Bill 2013: Report Stage (Resumed) (10 Jul 2013)

Joan Collins: When we put forward Deputy Daly's Bill twice last year, if we had known that we could have formed legislation around fatal foetal abnormalities, we would have done so. In the discussion of those Bills, we heard from families who told a tragic story to the Minister and the world about those desperate issues. Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Missing Children (4 Jul 2013)

Joan Collins: We all welcome the introduction of the hotline number and many people have sought its introduction for a long time. I particularly mention Mr. Tom Brown, who has campaigned for a long time since his sister went missing. The Minister indicated that the hotline would be used in 23 countries. There seems to be a problem with Finland. What is happening in that regard? The report of the...

Equal Status (Amendment) Bill 2013: Second Stage (Resumed) [Private Members] (3 Jul 2013)

It has been seen to operate fairly effectively in places such as Scotland, where it has been in place for a number of years. Consequently, useful legislation in this regard exists in other countries that could...
