Pat O'Neill: I am asking the Leader to arrange a debate on water provision in order that we can find out what is the true Sinn Féin policy on water charges.

Pat O'Neill: If it is in government after the next general election, it will decide to leave water charges in place because it will need the revenue to improve the infrastructure. It should not try to cod the people all of the time; it is doing one thing in the North and another in the South. I seek a debate on its policy on Irish Water.

Pat O'Neill: The comments by Senator Daly on the new Garda Commissioner are outrageous and I would ask that he withdraw them.

Pat O'Neill: Senator Daly also made reference to works of fiction. The greatest work of fiction, or comedy, was when former Deputies Dermot Ahern and Noel Dempsey stood on the plinth and said that the IMF and the ECB were not coming into the country and that a bailout was not necessary.

The Minister of State is very welcome to the House and I am delighted at her appointment. There is a place called Bennettsbridge in County Kilkenny as well so hopefully we will identify a project there for the Minister of State.

Pat O'Neill: I welcome the Minister of State, Deputy Ann Phelan, to the House. The two of us were elected for the first time in 2004 in the same electoral area, Thomastown in County Kilkenny. We were again elected in 2009. When she was elected to the Dáil in 2011, I was elected to the Seanad six weeks later. However, I have not been offered a Ministry since she was appointed Minister of State....
