- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Reform of the Common Agricultural Policy: Discussion (18 Dec 2012)
Andrew Doyle: I thank the delegates for their contributions. Before adjourning the meeting, I will take the opportunity to make some general remarks. First, I am not sure it makes sense to describe a presentation as both concise and comprehensive, but it does seem a fitting description of the engagement we have had today between committee members and delegates. I expect the latter are relieved to...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Reform of the Common Agricultural Policy: Discussion (18 Dec 2012)
Andrew Doyle: Indeed. In addition, we produced a report on oil and gas, the contents of which secured all-party agreement. The delegates might find it an interesting read. It is good to know that we are in agreement on more issues than we might have expected. I assure the delegates that there was no deliberate attempt to delay their presentation or anything of that sort. We have thus far engaged...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Reform of the Common Agricultural Policy: Discussion (18 Dec 2012)
Andrew Doyle: Can I ask Ms Murray to qualify her reference to "the EU budget"? I think she means the overall multi-annual financial framework, rather than the annual budget of the EU. Is it not the case that CAP represents approximately 3% of the total EU spend, as opposed to the multi-annual financial framework?

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Objectives and Activities in Promoting a Healthy Ireland: Discussion with Nutrition and Health Foundation (18 Dec 2012)
Andrew Doyle: There is. The purpose of the meeting today was to let members become aware of it. Deputy Ó Cuív and Senator O'Neill referred to what the committee or members could do. We all have websites, Facebook pages and Twitter accounts so the first thing we could do is put up a notice pointing to a link to the NHF website and the booklet, which is free online. That would be a start. The...

Andrew Doyle: To ask the Minister for Social Protection if a review has been undertaken on the farm assist scheme on the effectiveness of its stated goal to reduce poverty amongst farmers, by her Department in cooperation with the Department of Agriculture, Marine and Food; if there are any targets for the scheme; and if she will make a statement on the matter. - Finance (Local Property Tax) Bill 2012: Second Stage (14 Dec 2012)
Andrew Doyle: I thank the Ceann Comhairle for the opportunity to speak on this Bill. We tend to forget that in 1977, when rates were abolished, their abolition was ridiculed as a political ploy and as economic recklessness. At the time I did not have a vote but I do remember people giving out, not about the rates per se but about the valuation method used. The old poor law valuation method was deemed to...
