- Joint Committee on Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht: Issues Facing Women in Sport: Discussion (27 Apr 2021)
Imelda Munster: How much time do I have left?
- Joint Committee on Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht: Issues Facing Women in Sport: Discussion (27 Apr 2021)
Imelda Munster: I agree 100% with everything said by Ms Begley. It is scandalous that women at this level are not receiving similar levels of funding to their male counterparts and it is an issue that must be addressed. I propose that the committee write to the Department recommending that the Department carries out a full review of funding for women's sport and establish a task force to examine the wider...
- Covid-19 Vaccination Programme: Statements (22 Apr 2021)
Imelda Munster: The HSE recently sent out an invite to all elected representatives to visit the vaccination centres in the midlands, Louth and Meath area and there was a list of eight vaccination centres. Drogheda was No. 8 on the list but it was on the list as "to be confirmed". They still have not identified a site. In fairness, they have had ample time to do that. I have been chasing it with them....

- Public Accounts Committee: 2019 Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 30 - Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (20 Apr 2021) Imelda Munster: I thank Mr. Gleeson and his team. We heard in this committee before, from HRI for the year of 2019, that the total amount that was paid to horse breeders as part of the fund was €385,000 out of €67 million. Does the Department believe that represents value for money?
- Public Accounts Committee: 2019 Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 30 - Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (20 Apr 2021) Imelda Munster: The problem we have here is that horse racing seems to be unique as a sport in Ireland, in that we have Horse Racing Ireland and the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board. They are two distinct organisations. There does not seem to be a similar practice in any other sport, with the regulatory body and the body responsible for the sport being distinct from each other. Will Mr. Gleeson comment...
- Public Accounts Committee: 2019 Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 30 - Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (20 Apr 2021) Imelda Munster: It would be interesting to get the Department's perspective, with both organisations being distinct. When we had representatives of the HRI before the committee, they more or less adopted the position that the regulatory board was best positioned to choose how to tackle doping, say, in the sport. One got the impression HRI was not too bothered and had little or no interest in it. Attendees...
- Public Accounts Committee: 2019 Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 30 - Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (20 Apr 2021) Imelda Munster: At the time, did the Department express an opinion on the fact that the €9 million in funding given to the regulatory board to install CCTV was spent on something other than CCTV?
- Public Accounts Committee: 2019 Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 30 - Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (20 Apr 2021) Imelda Munster: It is the integrity of the sport, is it not?
- Public Accounts Committee: 2019 Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 30 - Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (20 Apr 2021) Imelda Munster: I was curious as to what oversight there was from the Department.
- Public Accounts Committee: 2019 Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 30 - Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (20 Apr 2021) Imelda Munster: I thank the Comptroller and Auditor General for clarification on the figures and the funding for CCTV, but the important factor is that the IHRB thought it was appropriate to spend money allocated to protect the integrity of the sport on an online portal system instead of CCTV that would detect doping. The Department remained indifferent to this, despite the fact that, as Mr. Gleeson has...
- Public Accounts Committee: 2019 Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 30 - Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (20 Apr 2021) Imelda Munster: With respect, given that it is seven years on from the recommendations and the Department is now saying almost seven years to the day later that some have been implemented and others will be in the future, where is the stringent oversight that ensures accountability? Why does there seem to be an absence of that? I have listened to other Deputies raise issues, and the one thing that strikes...
- Joint Committee on Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht: Key Priorities for the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media: Discussion (20 Apr 2021)
Imelda Munster: I have a number of questions for the Minister. I am looking for detail on the two outdoor dining grants. Did I hear her correctly that €12 million will be allocated to local authorities and €5 million will be allocated to the outdoor seating and accessory schemes for individual businesses?
- Joint Committee on Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht: Key Priorities for the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media: Discussion (20 Apr 2021)
Imelda Munster: I thank the Minister. How many businesses will be able to avail of these grants, according to her calculations or those of the Department? Did she research the average cost of businesses upgrading their facilities? It looks like outdoor dining will be the only option this year so many individual businesses will have to do major upgrades.
- Joint Committee on Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht: Key Priorities for the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media: Discussion (20 Apr 2021)
Imelda Munster: I am asking about the €5 million awarded for individual businesses. How many businesses will be able to avail of this, according to the Minister's calculations? Did the Department research the average cost for businesses to upgrade their facilities?
- Joint Committee on Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht: Key Priorities for the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media: Discussion (20 Apr 2021)
Imelda Munster: I am curious as to why the maximum grant is €4,000 if no research as such was carried out to find out the cost of an upgrade to individual businesses. It is likely that it will be their only option this year.
- Joint Committee on Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht: Key Priorities for the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media: Discussion (20 Apr 2021)
Imelda Munster: I am curious because I spoke to Louth County Council yesterday and the person in charge of the process did not have information as to the amount it would receive. I am curious as to how the €5 million for individual businesses throughout the State was calculated, given the pressure they are under. This is why I am asking.
- Joint Committee on Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht: Key Priorities for the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media: Discussion (20 Apr 2021)
Imelda Munster: The Minister does not know what research was done.
