Northern Ireland Issues: Motion (Resumed). (2 Mar 2005)

Liz McManus: The killing of Robert McCartney has left a family without a father, a son and a brother and this terrible loss must be acknowledged. He was an innocent man having a drink with his friend, Brendan Devine, and he should have been able to go home to his family when the pub closed. Instead, he was systematically stabbed, cut open like a gutted fish, brutally kicked in the head and left to die....

Health (Amendment) Bill 2005: Second Stage. (2 Mar 2005)

Liz McManus: I welcome the Minister of State. I am astonished that he and not the Tánaiste is taking the Bill. I do not see this as a matter of sorrow, as Deputy Twomey does. Rather, it engenders in me a certain suspicion. The Minister developed a reputation over the years for shouldering responsibility and telling it as it is, yet it is noteworthy that she is absent. At a time when a Bill is being...

Order of Business. (24 Feb 2005)

Liz McManus: In the middle of May 2000, the former Minister for Health and Children, Deputy Martin, set up the Dunne inquiry into organ retention. Since then, €20 million has been spent on this inquiry, which is non-statutory. There is information in the media that it is to be ended and some kind of inspectorate put in place.

Order of Business. (24 Feb 2005)

Liz McManus: In May 2000, the then Minister, Deputy Martin, indicated that should the Dunne inquiry not succeed, there would be full statutory inquiry. Will that commitment be honoured? What exactly is the situation? It is very unclear at the moment.
