Neasa Hourigan: We would very much appreciate if Screen Ireland could send on that report when it is completed. I am trying to finish on time but are there any quick follow-up questions from the remaining Deputies?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Gender Equality: Recommendations of the Report of the Citizens’ Assembly on Gender Equality: Discussion (Resumed) (12 Oct 2022)

Neasa Hourigan: I thank the Chair and welcome the Taoiseach. I was delighted to hear the Taoiseach pick up on the programme for Government because something we have been trying to do is flag certain issues that align with the work of the Joint Committee on Gender Equality. I want to use my time to draw his attention to two areas in the programme for Government, which pertain to what we are dealing with at...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Gender Equality: Recommendations of the Report of the Citizens’ Assembly on Gender Equality: Discussion (Resumed) (12 Oct 2022)

Neasa Hourigan: We have. The Taoiseach is exactly right. Covid threw up such a dynamic situation that data got parked for a little while because we were looking at situations that were just so extreme. It was very difficult to parse the numbers on that level. One issue is that the performance indicators from Departments present a particular challenge. They have to be contextualised within gender...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Gender Equality: Recommendations of the Report of the Citizens’ Assembly on Gender Equality: Discussion (Resumed) (12 Oct 2022)

Neasa Hourigan: -----and bear them in mind when making decisions. If I were to point to one policy decision or piece of work that would be really meaningful for those families, it would be the removal of the pressure and responsibility on lone parents to look for maintenance. We should have a system that is more reliant on the State and the State should take some responsibility for supporting the parent...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Long Covid and Monkeypox: Discussion (12 Oct 2022)

Neasa Hourigan: Apologies for being slightly late. I was doing the school run. I would like to return to the isolation issue. I am aware that the isolation requirement for monkeypox is different from that of Covid. Can the witnesses outline the isolation time periods?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Long Covid and Monkeypox: Discussion (12 Oct 2022)

Neasa Hourigan: Is guidance on a number of days' isolation being provided?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Long Covid and Monkeypox: Discussion (12 Oct 2022)

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Long Covid and Monkeypox: Discussion (12 Oct 2022)

Neasa Hourigan: I suppose what I am trying to get at-----

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Long Covid and Monkeypox: Discussion (12 Oct 2022)

Neasa Hourigan: -----is that it is not like Covid,-----

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Long Covid and Monkeypox: Discussion (12 Oct 2022)

Neasa Hourigan: -----where we were telling people that if they tested positive they should isolate for seven days or 14 days.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Long Covid and Monkeypox: Discussion (12 Oct 2022)

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Long Covid and Monkeypox: Discussion (12 Oct 2022)

Neasa Hourigan: I do not want to use the word "struggling", but considering that we are negotiating the procurement of vaccines, is isolation particularly important in terms of prevention?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Long Covid and Monkeypox: Discussion (12 Oct 2022)

Neasa Hourigan: Could Professor Lyons expand on that? How would she characterise supporting people so that they can isolate?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Long Covid and Monkeypox: Discussion (12 Oct 2022)

Neasa Hourigan: Would it be fair to say that because of the group that this affects, patients might be more likely to be living in shared housing or might be part of a younger cohort?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Long Covid and Monkeypox: Discussion (12 Oct 2022)

Neasa Hourigan: I know that it is not really the Professor's area, but it is worth saying for the record that there are financial barriers to people isolating if they are in precarious work as well. We are not supporting people financially the way we did during Covid.
