Other Questions: Sports Capital Programme (27 Nov 2012)

Pat Deering: I welcome the sports capital programme. I come from the small county of Carlow, which was always left to one side by Deputy Dooley's party and largely forgotten about when it came to sports grants. The Minister has indicated that the criteria for the awarding of grants will be transparent on this occasion and I look forward to a decent and fair round of allocations.

Other Questions: Sports Capital Programme (27 Nov 2012)

Pat Deering: There is no need as I am well aware of the criteria. Due to the fact that Carlow was treated poorly in the past there are a large number of applications from clubs in that county, and that is also true of other counties. How will the clubs and organisations which do not meet the criteria on this occasion be informed of that fact? Will information be provided before the grants are...

Topical Issue Debate: Education and Training (13 Nov 2012)

Pat Deering: I thank the Minister of State for his reply. The real problem is progression for people who may have had level eight qualifications in, for example, architecture or quantity surveying. There are no longer jobs in these areas and they are going back to education to change career. As the courses they are now pursuing are level six or seven, they do not qualify for support even though they...

Topical Issue Debate: Education and Training (13 Nov 2012)

Pat Deering: I thank the Ceann Comhairle for selecting this issue, which I have been seeking a debate on for some time. As we all know, we are in the midst of a severe economic downturn and large numbers of people are unemployed. The only way to get many of those people back into employment is to get them back into education. However, getting people back into education requires financial assistance....

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Pre-Budget Submissions: Discussion with Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association (13 Nov 2012)

Pat Deering: While we have not touched a great deal on budgetary matters, the point was made earlier that there may be a 6% cut in this area in the forthcoming budget. Many schemes were mentioned during this debate. In Mr. Comer's view, what, in terms of the forthcoming budget, are the priority issues? In the event of, say, the suckler scheme being given priority, from where could savings be achieved...

Tax Transparency Bill 2012: Second Stage [Private Members] (9 Nov 2012)

Pat Deering: As with previous speakers, I am delighted to have the opportunity to speak to this Bill. I compliment my colleague, Deputy Eoghan Murphy, for introducing this forward-thinking Bill. It is ironic that there are few people sitting opposite today as the new Friday Dáil sittings provide an ideal opportunity for people like us on the Government benches to introduce important legislation....
