I ask the Leader to arrange a debate in the next session on the prison service. I wish to express my solidarity with the prison officers at Castlerea Prison. The two Romanian nationals took advantage of the attitude of trust and the fact...

- Seanad: Order of Business (10 Jul 2012)
Terry Leyden: I understand he has and I would like to second it. I compliment Senator O'Donovan on his excellent work in this regard since it was first brought to his attention on 26 June 2012. I spoke to their spokesperson in Florida, Mr. Conor Deeney from Derry. They feel let down by the Government as they have been left stranded in Florida and the Government is taking no responsibility in this...
- Seanad: Order of Business (10 Jul 2012)
Terry Leyden: He is an extraordinary Minister because he is ignoring the elephant in the room. These young people have invested between â¬85,000 and â¬91,000 for a course in the private Pilot Training College in Waterford, which is partly funded by Enterprise Ireland and registered by the Irish Aviation Authority. We have a direct responsibility in this regard and we cannot wash our hands of it and...
- Seanad: Order of Business (10 Jul 2012)
Terry Leyden: It is about time the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport took action in this regard. The Florida Institute of Technology is owed $1.4 million, equivalent to â¬1.13 million, and has taken action. Terry Leyden: The remaining 140 students come from countries throughout the world, some of which are in dire straits. Some of the African countries were marvellous to provide this funding. As Senator O'Donovan said this undermines the credibility of private colleges. It reflects on this State that a private college can let down students. The State must take action now. I ask the Leader to facilitate a...

- Seanad: Gaeltacht Bill 2012: Committee Stage (Resumed) (5 Jul 2012)
Terry Leyden: It is a special occasion. I took my seat this day 35 years ago, having been elected in June 1977. It has been a very enjoyable period. I was out of the Oireachtas for ten years. I am glad to be back. I am delighted to have such great colleagues in this House. I would like the Seanad to be retained because it is a great outlet.
- Seanad: Order of Business (4 Jul 2012)
Terry Leyden: I join Senator Mullins in congratulating the American people on their Independence Day and I offer my best wishes to the US ambassador, Dan Rooney, and his wife. It was great that the ambassador attended yesterday's discussion in the House along with the British ambassador. I ask the Leader to correspond with the US ambassador on behalf of the Seanad. All of us would agree that it is an...
- Seanad: Order of Business (4 Jul 2012)
Terry Leyden: I am delighted that the Bill will be regenerated and renewed in this House. In some countries, wind turbines are located along major highways or in industrial estates and, as such, do not affect local residents. I am losing confidence in the Government because it is not really achieving much.
