- National Broadband Plan: Statements (27 Jan 2022)
Jennifer Carroll MacNeill: What about the 2022 targets?
- National Broadband Plan: Statements (27 Jan 2022)
Jennifer Carroll MacNeill: I thank the Leas-Cheann Comhairle. I have written to the Minister of State, so I have given him notice of many of my questions on the national broadband plan. I thank him for the letter I received yesterday. To put it on the record of the House, my questions to the Minister of State, which were in December and he may address them in his answers, were whether his Department had been...
- National Broadband Plan: Statements (27 Jan 2022)
Jennifer Carroll MacNeill: I thank the Minister of State and for his answer and for his letter, which contained more responses. I have two more questions. I saw yesterday in the Seanad that a number of 54,000 connections was mentioned. I think the milestone was set at 60,000 homes being ready for connection by the end of January, although I am open to correction on that. Is that correct? I am told that there...
- Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (27 Jan 2022)
Jennifer Carroll MacNeill: The Government has published the Housing for All update on the Government website. I met yesterday with two groups calling for one-bedroom apartments. Young professionals are trying to move out of home. The Dublin Simon Community is desperately seeking one-bedroom accommodation for rental. I want to ask the Tánaiste about the status of the planning objection legislation under the...
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Defence Forces (27 Jan 2022)
Jennifer Carroll MacNeill: It is important, when somebody makes a complaint about harassment or any other form of bullying or unwanted activity, that the person has the capacity to have that raised, heard and acted on quickly. Speed is one of the most important factors in respect of being heard, having access to justice and having the matter resolved quickly.
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Defence Forces (27 Jan 2022)
Jennifer Carroll MacNeill: 113. To ask the Taoiseach and Minister for Defence the progress at tackling inappropriate behaviour in the Defence Forces arising from concerns raised in 2021 by a number of serving and retired personnel; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3645/22]
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Defence Forces (27 Jan 2022)
Jennifer Carroll MacNeill: This series of questions is about the response to the serious concerns arising from the experiences of members of the Defence Forces, particularly women. I acknowledge the Minister has given a detailed answer to Deputy Clarke already under priority questions. My focus is on the independence of the measure the Minister proposes, whether the chair will be free to write about the scale of...
- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Defence Forces (27 Jan 2022)
Jennifer Carroll MacNeill: That is the key point for me, that she is free to express whether she has received co-operation. That is one of the key concerns around a statutory inquiry or otherwise. I ask the Minister to recognise, of course, in his capacity as Minister for Foreign Affairs and Defence, that today is Holocaust Memorial Day. It may have been marked by another Deputy in advance of me mentioning this....
- Public Accounts Committee: National Transport Authority: Financial Statements 2020 (27 Jan 2022)
Jennifer Carroll MacNeill: I thank the witnesses for coming before the committee. I have just come from the committee on gender equality so I missed a little bit of this meeting and I apologise if I repeat anything. With regard to gender balance, I see from the annual report that at the end of 2020 the board had two female members, 22%, and seven male members with three positions vacant. I would like a progress...
- Public Accounts Committee: National Transport Authority: Financial Statements 2020 (27 Jan 2022)
Jennifer Carroll MacNeill: There is still a way to go.
- Public Accounts Committee: National Transport Authority: Financial Statements 2020 (27 Jan 2022)
Jennifer Carroll MacNeill: It is but it is no harm to highlight it here either. I want to ask about the green school travel and active school travel projects the NTA has been engaged in. There has been significant funding from the NTA for local authorities. Will the witnesses give an outline of this and how they think it is going in terms of efficiency?
- Public Accounts Committee: National Transport Authority: Financial Statements 2020 (27 Jan 2022)
Jennifer Carroll MacNeill: Is that distinct from the active travel project?
- Public Accounts Committee: National Transport Authority: Financial Statements 2020 (27 Jan 2022)
Jennifer Carroll MacNeill: What is the funding amount that has been spent?

Jennifer Carroll MacNeill: Can the witnesses give me an approximate figure?

Jennifer Carroll MacNeill: What was spent in 2021?
- Public Accounts Committee: National Transport Authority: Financial Statements 2020 (27 Jan 2022)
Jennifer Carroll MacNeill: I thank the witnesses. So much is caught up in this with the climate agenda and with making life easier for parents and children. In my area I have seen huge infrastructural improvements with more to come. I am not asking for problems but what is the relationship with the local authorities in terms of governance, efficiency and oversight? Will the witnesses describe it to me, please?

Jennifer Carroll MacNeill: I am really asking about governance.
- Public Accounts Committee: National Transport Authority: Financial Statements 2020 (27 Jan 2022)
Jennifer Carroll MacNeill: I can see at every level that huge effort is going into this and that is fantastic. I want to go back down to the broader read-across of other supports for public transport in schools. I will highlight the example of the 59 and 111 bus routes in Dublin. This is where a review of the routes and timetables is necessary to support schoolchildren and their families. At 3.43 p.m. a 59 bus...
- Public Accounts Committee: National Transport Authority: Financial Statements 2020 (27 Jan 2022)
Jennifer Carroll MacNeill: There is an opportunity in this to explain the difficulties with it. People are frustrated that the DART is not more regular. Obviously level crossings are a big part of this. Will the witnesses take this opportunity to explain the reasons for this and what is driving it?
