It would make provision for the acquisition of important heritage objects that are going abroad and elsewhere. James Bannon: Announcements of job losses have become too common an event. What investors in business seek is the right environment to create and maintain jobs. High business costs and tax levies are driving businesses elsewhere such as to Eastern Europe and China. This is regrettable at this time. The Government has imposed a series of massive stealth taxes in recent years.

James Bannon: The large amount of job losses in the midlands was brought home to us in recent months. Deputy Penrose referred to the loss of almost 500 jobs at Iralco. We also had the loss of 100 jobs at Nexans, 60 jobs at Kimball Electrics and the announcement that more than 20 jobs will be lost at B3 Cable in Longford, which has gone unnoticed by the media.
