Joe Costello: What happened after An Bord Pleanála rejected the design, which took five years - from 2007 to 2012 - to produce? The design team went back to the drawing board and in the space of three or four weeks it came up with a new design for a children’s hospital on the same site.

Joe Costello: It may have had some relevance and it should have been referred to the new design team when the development board made its decision. This new design was nearly half the height of the first design.
