- Seanad: Order of Business (4 Oct 2018)
John O'Mahony: I want to respond to Senator Ardagh's opening statement about the protests yesterday. I acknowledge that there is a housing crisis but it is unfair to expect a Minister or Government to provide the thousands of required houses overnight.I live in Ballaghaderreen on the Mayo-Roscommon border and we are affected by the housing crisis as well. I had reason last summer to check the number of...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: General Scheme of the Airport Noise Regulation Bill 2018: Discussion (3 Oct 2018)
John O'Mahony: I do not want to jump ahead but Mr. Gallagher said that the planning application will have to go to Fingal County Council rather than directly to An Bord Pleanála. Does that have implications for development timelines or the growth of the airport? Perhaps this is not relevant, but in terms of the working through of this Bill, will there be implications for night time flights and a...

John O'Mahony: I thank the Chair for selecting this Commencement matter. I have been contacted by the parents of the children who attend Shraheen national school in Knockmore, County Mayo, and by Councillor Neil Cruise about the school's pupil numbers and teacher allocations. The school has two teachers at present. Just 14 pupils were enrolled in the school at the start of the school year in September....
- Seanad: Commencement Matters: School Staff (3 Oct 2018)
John O'Mahony: I thank the Minister for State for the reply. I accept the criteria as outlined but my information is slightly different from that outlined. The information will be confirmed one way or the other. The parents who contacted me were disappointed that they had not been made aware of the position earlier because there would have been no problem getting up to 15 enrolments. Efforts were made...

John O'Mahony: I thank for Mr. McGrail for this thorough presentation. He seems to be eminently qualified for the task he has been asked to take up. I realise he does not yet have his feet under the table, but there a few topics on which I would like him to expand. Mr. McGrail mentioned the phenomenal growth of Dublin Airport, with record numbers of 30 million passengers last year. Connectivity and...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Proposals for Second Runway at Dublin Airport and Noise Regulation Legislation: Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport (11 Jul 2018)
John O'Mahony: I thank the Minister for outlining the process that is starting. When Mr. Geoghegan appeared before the committee, he pointed out that there could be a second runway but less throughput of passengers in Dublin Airport than at present, which would be disastrous given the growth the airport needs. Everybody's rights need to be taken into account. I understand the Minister's explanation of...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Proposals for Second Runway at Dublin Airport and Noise Regulation Legislation: Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport (11 Jul 2018)
John O'Mahony: In response to my question, the Minister said that the regulator may decide on the noise levels. In other words, the regulator may uphold the current restrictions. The Minister also said that this is unacceptable. Am I correct that he is saying that he cannot allow a situation whereby the progress and growth of Dublin Airport would be compromised?
