Committee on Disability Matters: Autonomy and Integrity for Persons with Disabilities: Discussion (15 Oct 2025)

Martin Conway: They might have an arrangement in place, but supposing after the arrangement is put in place and their health deteriorates, and then they are-----

Seanad: Budget 2026 (Enterprise, Tourism and Employment): Statements (14 Oct 2025)

Martin Conway: Gabhaim buĂochas leis an Acting Cathaoirleach. Of course I will. I commend my colleague Senator Kennelly on espousing the virtues of Kerry. Indeed he is right. Clare, across the Shannon, has equally as much to offer. The Minster is very welcome to the House. I am delighted that tourism has been added to his brief. When we look back to 2010 to 2012, when we were on our knees as a...

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (9 Oct 2025)

Martin Conway: I also warmly welcome our colleague Senator Andrews back. I commend him on what was a truly heroic effort on his part to shine a light on the issue. In due course, I am sure we will hear some of the haunting stories. I join my two colleagues in wishing him well in the upcoming days. I wish him and his family well with his transition back to Irish life. I would like a debate on the...

Seanad: Budget 2026 (Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation): Statements (8 Oct 2025)

Martin Conway: I welcome the Minister of State to the House. I realise that budgets are a balancing act. You have to try to take all sorts of competing interests, scenarios and situations, some of which are complex and some of which are not so complex, and some of which have consequences and some of which have unintended consequences. You have to look at what the major issues of the day are. The number...

Seanad: Supports and Services for Patients with Head and Neck Cancers: Motion (8 Oct 2025)

Martin Conway: I thank Senator Craughwell for putting down this motion. As the fella says, when you talk with personal experience, you talk with passion and power. I have spoken to Senator Craughwell many times and I welcome Rebecca here today. I have spoken to him many times over the years about the challenges his family and Rebecca have faced in dealing with this issue. As somebody with a lived...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: National Ambulance Service: Discussion (8 Oct 2025)

Martin Conway: I commend all the people who work in the ambulance service, particularly the paramedics who are on the front line and do an excellent job. Does the ambulance service get real-time information quickly on, for example, the previous week in terms of time delays, etc.?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: National Ambulance Service: Discussion (8 Oct 2025)

Martin Conway: Are the witnesses aware of a situation in Clare where there has been a vulnerability due to sick leave and people going on leave in general? The county has been exceptionally vulnerable due to the lack of personnel in the National Ambulance Service.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: National Ambulance Service: Discussion (8 Oct 2025)

Martin Conway: What I am looking to know relates specifically to County Clare. Has there been an issue when it comes to absenteeism, people on sick leave and so on that has led to a critical situation?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: National Ambulance Service: Discussion (8 Oct 2025)

Martin Conway: My understanding is that it is not unusual for people to wait an hour or two and in some cases even three hours. There is one documented case from a road traffic collision in Doonbeg last March where a lady was waiting three hours for an ambulance. Are the witnesses aware of many other examples of somebody in County Clare waiting three hours and more for an ambulance that they can share with us?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: National Ambulance Service: Discussion (8 Oct 2025)

Martin Conway: A number of cases have been brought to my attention. I will be examining them further and submitting freedom of information requests to establish what is happening because it is extremely concerning. I have a question about something that really annoys me. It is not the witnesses' fault but do they have data on bogus calls for ambulances? What are the statistics on people acting the goat...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: National Ambulance Service: Discussion (8 Oct 2025)

Martin Conway: Will the ambulance service supply the committee with these statistics? Finally, we are all aware of the 999 scandal that happened some time ago. Can Mr. Morton give us any fresh information on unanswered 999 calls?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: National Ambulance Service: Discussion (8 Oct 2025)

Martin Conway: I thought there was some issue relating to the National Ambulance Service as well.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: National Ambulance Service: Discussion (8 Oct 2025)

Martin Conway: Okay, that is fine.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: National Ambulance Service: Discussion (8 Oct 2025)

Martin Conway: Okay. What is the longest time someone has had to wait for an ambulance in County Clare over the past three or four weeks?

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (7 Oct 2025)

Martin Conway: I too welcome the budget and the overall debates that will take place this afternoon and tomorrow. Like others, I call for a sector-by-sector debate on the different areas to give us an opportunity to drill down into specific areas. There are many good measures that we will not have the opportunity to discuss in the overall budget statements, particularly in the area of disability. I...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Management of Hospital Waiting Lists and Insourcing and Outsourcing of Treatment: Discussion (Resumed) (1 Oct 2025)

Martin Conway: I have been a member of this committee for a number of years, and it is a breath of fresh air to have a Minister who comes in and calls it out. A Minister who calls out the good practices - and what Sandra Broderick is doing in Limerick has to be commended - but also calls out the bad practices and points out where people have responsibilities within the system to improve and change the...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Management of Hospital Waiting Lists and Insourcing and Outsourcing of Treatment: Discussion (Resumed) (1 Oct 2025)

Martin Conway: Will Mr. Gloster meet Vision Ireland to discuss future plans?

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó (Atógáil) - Order of Business (Resumed) (30 Sep 2025)

Martin Conway: I too want to be associated with the votes of sympathy for Dr. Martin Mansergh, and to Senator Lorraine Clifford-Lee on the death of her mother. I stand here regarding the HIQA report. I am doing this against the backdrop of there having been 147 people from the mid-west region on trolleys in University Hospital Limerick, UHL, at one stage over the past couple of days, which is completely...

Seanad: Nithe i dtosach suíonna - Commencement Matters: Hospital Services (25 Sep 2025)

Martin Conway: The Minister of State is very welcome to the House. It is my first time speaking here since his appointment. I warmly congratulate him. His expertise in his area was well recognised in the previous Oireachtas. I have no doubt he is going to make a significant impact in the coming months and I wish him the best of luck. I stand with Senator Dee Ryan on the issue that has dominated politics...
