- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Private Security Authority (16 May 2019)
Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire: I thank the Minister for that response. We will keep the situation under review. For our part, I am glad the Minister has acknowledged the Bill. We will progress it to Second Stage if we are not satisfied with progress from the Government. We can consider any amendments the Minister proposes to make to that Bill, if it progresses to Committee Stage, which I hope it will, and I emphasise...

- Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Private Security Authority (16 May 2019)
Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire: In early April, in response to a point I had been raising for a period of time, the Minister announced his intention to bring those involved in the enforcement of court orders relating to evictions under the Private Security Authority and the relevant legislation. I ask the Minister for the latest position and to outline where the proposal stands at present.

Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire: 2. To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality his plans to amend the Chemical Act 2008 to deal with the regulation of sale of corrosive substances; if legislation is required to deal with the use of acid as a weapon; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21174/19]
- Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Criminal Law Review (16 May 2019)
Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire: I am sure the Minister will agree with me that the recent acid attack in Waterford on Tega Agberhiere and Padraig Sullivan and others was particularly horrific. It was particularly malicious. We need to consider whether our legislation is adequate to ensure that we can deal with the use of acid as a weapon and whether consideration should be given to the sale of certain products to minors.
- Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Criminal Law Review (16 May 2019)
Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire: I echo the Minister's call for anyone who has information to come forward to the gardaí in Waterford. Mr. Agberhiere spoke after this appalling attack of the fear of being left blind and being left with permanent scars. Padraig Sullivan, another young man who was attacked in the same incident, described the pain as being like someone holding a lighter constantly on his leg, burning it,...
- Ceisteanna - Questions - Priority Questions: Criminal Law Review (16 May 2019)
Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire: The Minister has partly pre-empted what I was going to say. There is a voluntary code in Britain, and perhaps it could be put on a statutory basis in Ireland, that products which contain either 10% or 12% materials such as sulphuric acid, sodium hydroxide, hydrochloric acid, ammonium hydroxide and suchlike should not be sold to people younger than 18 years. Perhaps that should be considered...

Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire: 23. To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality his plans to tackle cross-Border crimes, rural crime and serious crime in view of concerns raised in these areas by organisations representing gardaí. [20945/19]
- Written Answers — Department of Justice and Equality: International Conventions (16 May 2019)
Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire: 25. To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality when the international agreement to prevent the sexual abuse of children known as the Lanzarote convention is to be ratified in view of the fact that Ireland is an outlier amongst European states in its failure to ratify this convention; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20946/19]
- Written Answers — Department of Justice and Equality: Gangland Crime (16 May 2019)
Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire: 32. To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality if he will address recent events in Drogheda, County Louth, and the need for additional Garda resources; and if he will consider a model similar to that of the task force in the north inner city in response to ongoing drug-related incidents in the town. [20944/19]
- Coroners (Amendment) Bill 2018: Report and Final Stages (15 May 2019)
Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire: I have no difficulty with these amendments and I will support them. An amendment in my name was ruled out of order. I accept the Ceann Comhairle's ruling but I want to put the Minister on notice that an amendment dealing with the potential of entering a verdict of iatrogenic suicide will be introduced in the Seanad. I ask the Minister to bear in that the issue will be debated in the Seanad.
- Coroners (Amendment) Bill 2018: Report and Final Stages (15 May 2019)
Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire: It is difficult to follow that contribution, and I have little enough to add. I support the point that has been made very eloquently and passionately by Deputy Clare Daly that there is a clear need for mandatory inquests into maternal deaths. In the past some people have tried to paint Ireland as a country with no problems around maternity and health, but clearly the experiences of many...

Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire: Hear, hear.

Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire: It is a pity the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government, Deputy Eoghan Murphy, is not here to account for his and the Government's policy failures in respect of the housing crisis. Deputy Ó Broin has pointed out that the Government is entirely failing to arrest runaway rents. There are supposed to be rent pressure zones in Cork city but there has been a 10% increase in...
- Gender Pay Gap Information Bill 2019: Second Stage (14 May 2019)
Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire: Táim ag tacú leis an mBille seo. Tá roinnt cáineadh a bhféadfaimís a dhéanamh faoin mBille seo mar atá sé, agus go bhféadfadh sé a bheith níos fearr. B’fhéidir go mbeimid ag déileáil leis sin trí leasuithe ag Céim an Choiste. Is Bille tábhachtach é an Bille seo ó thaobh comhionannais...
- Parental Leave (Amendment) Bill 2017: From the Seanad (14 May 2019)
Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire: I commend Deputy Shortall and her party, as well as the Minister of State and other Oireachtas Members who supported this legislation. Deputy Shortall has described this Bill as making a modest difference. However, it will make a real and significant difference for many parents and families. Raising a child is one of the most important things anyone will ever do. It is an ambition for...

Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire: 204. To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality his views on the reason for the drop in the number of personnel exchanges from An Garda Síochána to the PSNI from 2015 onwards; the reason for the drop in the length of exchanges from an initial duration of two months to the current duration of three weeks; the quality of feedback reports on these exchanges; and the...

- Written Answers — Department of Justice and Equality: Policing Issues (14 May 2019)
Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire: 206. To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality if members of An Garda Síochána and-or the PSNI transfer on a temporary basis to aid with individual investigations; and if so, the legislation under which same is carried out. [20464/19]
