- Seanad: An Garda Síochána: Statements (28 Mar 2017)
Martin Conway: I have got a sense from the people who have spoken in this House so far that they support what the Minister is doing to reform An Garda Síochána, which is right. Since the Tánaiste took over as Minister for Justice and Equality in 2014, it is clearly and plainly obvious to anybody that she put structures in place to ensure that we will have a fit for purpose, proper,...

- Seanad: An Garda Síochána: Statements (28 Mar 2017)
Martin Conway: I am not, but I am sick and tired of listening to Members who on the one hand look for one thing and on the other hand look for something else, when the appropriate and correct thing to do was at that time to close certain Garda stations and invest in upgrading ICT and Garda vehicles
- Seanad: An Garda Síochána: Statements (28 Mar 2017)

That is where we should focus our attention. I wish the Minister for Justice and Equality well in the work she is doing in that regard.

Martin Conway: I apologise for being late. I have read the opening statement from Mr. Donnellan. I congratulate Mr. Donnellan on his reappointment as director general of the Prison Service. I believe it was a wise move because he has done an extraordinary job. The resources of the Prison Service have been cut considerably in recent years. Yet, what the service has achieved has been remarkable. We have...
- Seanad: Commencement Matters: Local Authority Rates (1 Mar 2017)
Martin Conway: I welcome the Minister of State, Deputy Catherine Byrne. I am delighted she is here to respond to me on behalf of the Minister for Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government. - Seanad: Commencement Matters: Local Authority Rates (1 Mar 2017)
Martin Conway: Absolutely. To be fair to the Minister, he is reflecting on the situation. I do not think any fair-minded person would expect somebody who is struggling and may not have the resources to bring a particular building up to standard to have a punitive rates bill for a building that is not generating any return. The particular situation about which I am concerned involves a business which has...

- Seanad: Commencement Matters: State Airports (16 Feb 2017)
Martin Conway: He is a former father of the House and is doing a very good job in Cabinet. I am tabling this matter following a notice of motion that was unanimously passed by Clare County Council. It requested that Clare County Council have a representative on the board of Shannon Airport and the Shannon Group. This is a reasonable request given there is an indelible link, which I am sure the Minister...

Martin Conway: I welcome the Minister of State to the House. He is a frequent visitor to Seanad Éireann and his frequent flyer card is well marked at this stage.
