Order of Business. (12 Apr 2005)

Trevor Sargent: This relates to the decentralisation programme. It is not acceptable to us if this is going to become a pattern of runaway costs for decentralisation based on a flawed policy and lack of thought.

Order of Business. (12 Apr 2005)

Trevor Sargent: I am opposed to it becoming a habit and pattern that we have Revised Estimates to give more money to the decentralisation programme. We were originally told it would cost a certain amount but it now looks like being a runaway cost. Will the Taoiseach tell us whether this will be a pattern or is it a one-off occurrence?

Order of Business. (12 Apr 2005)

Trevor Sargent: It is interesting to look at the list of promised legislation just published, particularly the date given for the charities regulation Bill. Is this Bill likely to be published in the term of this Government or of any Fianna Fáil-led Government? I have laid a bet to the effect that it will not be published under Fianna Fáil. Is my money safe?

Order of Business. (12 Apr 2005)

Trevor Sargent: It is interesting. The Taoiseach needs to respond given that his party is engaged in charitable fundraising for itself.

Order of Business. (12 Apr 2005)

Trevor Sargent: It has been waiting 15 years.

School Staffing. (24 Mar 2005)

Trevor Sargent: Gabhaim buíochas don Cheann Comhairle as deis a thabhairt dom labhairt faoi seo. Cuirim fáilte roimh an Aire Stáit fosta. I am grateful for the opportunity to raise this matter. Many teaching posts in the special needs education sector are filled by post-primary teachers and untrained personnel. The sector suffers a high turnover of staff because many teachers find they are not suited for,...

Garda Síochána Bill 2004 [Seanad]: Second Stage (Resumed). (24 Mar 2005)

Trevor Sargent: Fáiltím roimh dhíospóireacht ar bith mar gheall ar an Gharda Síochána, agus go mórmhór roimh an athbhreithniú atá i gceist ag an mBille seo. Is beag is fiúé, faraor, gan acmhainní. Caithfimid acmhainní a phlé agus muid ag caint ar athbhreithniú ar bith. Tá mé tar éis teacht ón gCoiste Oideachais agus Eolaíochta, áit a bhfuil an Teachta Hoctor chomh maith. Bhíomar ag...

Order of Business. (24 Mar 2005)

Trevor Sargent: I do not want to prevent the Minister from answering, a Cheann Comhairle.

Order of Business. (24 Mar 2005)

Trevor Sargent: I would like clarification of the Government's promise on the date for a referendum on the EU constitution. In today's newspapers the Government announced the launch of a new website and there is reference to a referendum in autumn of next year. Is there clarity on the Government side as to when the referendum will be held? On promised legislation, and to tie in with that, will the defence...

Fur Farming (Prohibition) Bill 2004: Second Stage (Resumed). (23 Mar 2005)

Trevor Sargent: Ar dtús báire ba mhaith liom mo bhuíochas a gabháil leis na Teachtaí as Fine Gael, Páirtí an Lucht Oibre, Sinn Féin agus An Páirtí Sóisialach agus leis na Teachtaí Neamhspleácha a labhair ar son an Bille seo agus a thug tacaíocht don Bhille. Even if this Bill needs to be amended, those parties are supporting it. That is in the spirt of the legislation introduced by Deputy Boyle,...
