Macroeconomic and Fiscal Outlook: Statements (Resumed) (28 Oct 2010)

Brian Hayes: Yesterday, I spent much time listening to the debate taking place in the House. If one listened to all of the contributions one could come to the conclusion that the only thing to do would be to sell up shop and leave the country immediately with one's family. We can get into a vortex of gloom which will do none of us any good. The people know exactly who is responsible for getting us into...

Macroeconomic and Fiscal Outlook: Statements (Resumed) (28 Oct 2010)

Brian Hayes: Yes, it is on the record. I wish to speak about some of the positives for the country. Things can change quickly. Within a two year period Ireland and the international economy could be in a totally different position. The question is whether we have the confidence of the people to make the decisions required over the coming two years. People speak about a four-year plan, which is...

Macroeconomic and Fiscal Outlook: Statements (Resumed) (28 Oct 2010)

Brian Hayes: Where is his apology to the Irish people for the mess he has created? We have to break that cosy consensus. It is inevitable people will have to get used to a radical reduction in incomes over the course of the next year or so as a result of whatever corrective action the Government takes. I hope the Government gives the information to the House as soon as possible about the proposed...

Macroeconomic and Fiscal Outlook: Statements (Resumed) (28 Oct 2010)

Brian Hayes: Market analysts tell me and others that if a country is serious about reducing the amount of interest it pays on its national debt it must reduce its budget deficit to under 10%. We currently have a budget deficit in the region of 12%, which is the highest in the eurozone. When the Minister publishes the four year plan in November, is it his intention to give us that figure? Is it his view...

Order of Business (21 Oct 2010)

Brian Hayes: When the Croke Park deal was agreed, it was accepted each lead Department would produce a specific plan on reform and efficiencies. Will the Tánaiste clarify for the House if these plans will now be published?

Order of Business (21 Oct 2010)

Brian Hayes: The problem, Sir, is the Tánaiste already addressed the matter last week. I am looking for clarification on it. I do not normally waste the Ceann Comhairle's time on the Order of Business. Will he give me some latitude?

Order of Business (21 Oct 2010)

Brian Hayes: Okay, we will try this another way. On a point of order, it is normal practice when a Member, directly or inadvertently, misleads the House that he or she is given an opportunity to correct the record of the House at the next available opportunity.
