Mary White: I reassure Senator Norris that American troops will begin to be withdrawn next year when the congressional elections will take place and will be fully out of Iraq in three years' time when the presidential election is approaching. I can already see a move in beginning to admit the war of deceit has failed and has been a total disaster. I also support Senator Norris's calls for an immediate...

- Seanad: Road Safety: Motion. (30 Nov 2005)
Mary White: I welcome the Minister of State and this debate, which I called for some weeks ago. Yesterday, the report of the annual national survey of motorists' behaviour and attitudes to road safety was published. The survey of 1,100 drivers nationwide was carried out by the Smurfit business school, UCD, in partnership with FBD Insurance and Advance Pitstop. It provides startling and eye-opening...
- Seanad: Estimates for Public Services 2006: Statements (Resumed). (24 Nov 2005)
Mary White: There is a need for a debate in the Seanad on employment, even though there is virtually no unemployment, because we must look to the future. A business will not survive unless it is constantly innovating, day and night. We cannot presume that the current level of unemployment, at 4%, will remain. On the total pre-budget Estimates figure of â¬48 billion, I would plead with the Minister of...

Mary White: I welcome the Minister of State and his departmental colleagues to the House. In answer to Senator Finucane, is the Government supposed to run the health service on a daily basis and micro-manage it? That is not the job of the Government. I do not know what he is talking about.

- Seanad: Estimates for Public Services 2006: Statements (Resumed). (24 Nov 2005)
Mary White: The Senator spoke about the waste of money. I do not know how he could say that. He also said the Government should be micro-managing organisations and that his region has had no foreign direct investment since 1991. As I have said before to the Senator and his colleagues from Waterford, why do they not put pressure on the IDA to get international investment to their counties?
- Seanad: Estimates for Public Services 2006: Statements (Resumed). (24 Nov 2005)
Mary White: I drive around the country and see the lack of infrastructure in certain places. People always blame their local Deputy or Senator when their part of the country is not doing well. I wish to address the topics of the cervical cancer screening programme, child care, pensions, manufacturing industries and the care of the elderly but I will first refer to Senator Quinn's remarks. There is much...
