- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Impact of Peat Shortages on the Horticultural Industry: Discussion (20 Jul 2021)
Jackie Cahill: Just because it is taking place does not mean it is right. I thought I misheard Mr. Nugent earlier. I did not want to interrupt Mr. Nugent but to concede that importation is part of the solution is inexcusable from a Department official. I am horrified to hear that we will concede that we cannot produce peat here for organic industries. Mr. Nugent, you better go back to the blackboard...

Jackie Cahill: Mr. Reynolds, you have given a very comprehensive outline of the problems regarding compensation. For clarity, regarding the culling costs mentioned, the Department is putting in 35 cent and the farmers are putting in a cost of €4 to €5 per animal. Did I hear that correctly?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Independent Mink Farms: Discussion (15 Jul 2021)
Jackie Cahill: There is a huge discrepancy there.
