- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Competition Law and Trade Associations: Discussion (1 Oct 2019)
Aidan Davitt: I thank the witnesses for their presentation. I will leave most of the questions relating to agriculture to my colleague, Deputy Cahill, who is our spokesperson. My question relates to insurance. I am concerned about the insurance industry and its cartel-like actions. The CCPC has carried out a lot of good work on the industry and there have been a number of high-profile "stings", for...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Competition Law and Trade Associations: Discussion (1 Oct 2019)
Aidan Davitt: There was a report recently on some of the larger insurance companies, which are loss making. Public liability insurance was mentioned. Insurance companies do not want to touch it and will get rid of at least 20% performing policies, particularly with regard to public liability insurance. Two or three companies seemed to be quoting for it over the past while but now nobody is quoting....

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Competition Law and Trade Associations: Discussion (1 Oct 2019)
Aidan Davitt: Some of these guys are not fit to operate in the insurance sector and the CCPC has identified some complications with some of them. Would the CCPC suggest to the Central Bank that these guys are not fit to have a licence in the Irish insurance industry?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Competition Law and Trade Associations: Discussion (1 Oct 2019)
Aidan Davitt: The CCPC has done great work in the area in the past while. Ireland is a small country with an open economy. The State should warn these insurance companies that if they mess around, the problems they cause will be documented. We must tell them the Central Bank will strongly consider refusing them a licence.
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (11 Jul 2019)
Aidan Davitt: I will start on quite a sad note in extending my sincerest sympathies, and those of Fianna Fáil, to the family of Brendan Grace. We heard the breaking news about the very popular comedian and singer late last night or early this morning. We extend our sincerest sympathy to his family. We also extend our sympathy to the family of Noel Whelan. Many here will have known him from his...
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (11 Jul 2019)
Aidan Davitt: It is a slightly different spelling. I have no problem whatsoever with Commissioner Hogan.
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (11 Jul 2019)
Aidan Davitt: As we are aware, the President-elect of the Commission has asked that all Governments provide both a male and female candidate-----
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (11 Jul 2019)
Aidan Davitt: -----for the Commissioner position. I ask the Leader to clarify that when he has the chance.

- Seanad: Industrial Relations (Amendment) Bill 2018: Committee and Remaining Stages (26 Jun 2019)
Aidan Davitt: I commend the Minister of State on the Bill, which is a great job of work. I would also like to be associated with his words on the Leas-Chathaoirleach's late mother. The Leas-Chathaoirleach has always been extremely fair. On behalf of the Fianna Fáil Party, I extend sincerest condolences and sympathy to him.

Aidan Davitt: I second the nomination.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Scrutiny of the Industrial and Provident Societies (Amendment) Bill 2018 (25 Jun 2019)
Aidan Davitt: Some colleagues pointed out that innovation vouchers do not apply to co-ops. Is there a particular reason for this? Some of us feel it should be extended to them as they tend to be start-up small enterprises.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Scrutiny of the Industrial and Provident Societies (Amendment) Bill 2018 (25 Jun 2019)
Aidan Davitt: I was surprised myself when I heard it earlier.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Scrutiny of the Industrial and Provident Societies (Amendment) Bill 2018 (25 Jun 2019)
Aidan Davitt: It was probably misconstrued.
- Seanad: Industrial Relations (Amendment) Bill 2018: Second Stage (19 Jun 2019)
Aidan Davitt: I will not delay the House. I appreciate the Minister of State being here today. Fianna Fáil is delighted to give this Bill its full support today. I have already brought up with the Minister of State a couple of issues that relate to the Bill and he has worked tirelessly to try to accommodate all parties. As he mentioned, it is disappointing that soldiers, in particular newer...
- Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (11 Jun 2019)
Aidan Davitt: I received a letter on parole board reviews from Councillor Suzanne Doyle and several other members of Kildare County Council, and I am sure Members on the other side of the House have also received some literature on this matter. As far as I am aware there is a review going on. Ray Quinn, who has campaigned on this for several years, has come up with a couple of very logical proposals in...
- Seanad: Nithe i dtosach suíonna - Commencement Matters: Local Government Reform (30 May 2019)
Aidan Davitt: I commend the Minister of State for the work he has done in such a short timeframe. I know that he and his Department have put a lot of effort into it, with the former High Court judge Henry Abbott. Is there any update on councillors' pay and conditions which is part of the process?
- Seanad: Nithe i dtosach suíonna - Commencement Matters: Local Government Reform (30 May 2019)
Aidan Davitt: The Minister of State might give us a brief line on it.
