Imelda Munster: There is no hurry on him.

Public Accounts Committee: Higher Education Authority: Financial Statements 2019 (1 Jul 2021)

Imelda Munster: Dr. Wall said earlier that he envisages smaller competency-based boards in the future. Does he have an opinion on the expansion of the University of Limerick's board, the creation of new positions and the significant increase in the number of staff earning more than €180,000? Is it Dr. Wall's opinion that he wants to see smaller competency-based boards in future?

Public Accounts Committee: Higher Education Authority: Financial Statements 2019 (1 Jul 2021)

Imelda Munster: I have one other question for clarity. Am I right in saying that, when the application for funding was submitted by the University of Limerick, it was for the overall project?

Public Accounts Committee: Higher Education Authority: Financial Statements 2019 (1 Jul 2021)

Imelda Munster: Was that application ever approved?

Imelda Munster: What was the reason for that?

Public Accounts Committee: Higher Education Authority: Financial Statements 2019 (1 Jul 2021)

Imelda Munster: Is it possible to get information on that?

Public Accounts Committee: Higher Education Authority: Financial Statements 2019 (1 Jul 2021)

Imelda Munster: The committee recently received correspondence about the ice rink owned by Dundalk Institute of Technology, DKIT. It appears DKIT let this sit idle for years and apparently it is now seeking to commercialise it. There was a standing offer for years that would have yielded a return and provided a public service. In providing funding to an institute under the authority's remit, does it have...

Public Accounts Committee: Higher Education Authority: Financial Statements 2019 (1 Jul 2021)

Imelda Munster: I thank the witnesses. An ice hockey team is looking for it and it would have provided a service or benefit as there are not too many ice rinks in the country. Out of curiosity, would there have been any benefit had the institution been able to claim it hosted a high-profile sports team? Would it have assisted the institution had it taken the offer at the time?

Written Answers — Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Horse Racing Industry (30 Jun 2021)

Imelda Munster: 330. To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine the number of hearings of the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board that have resulted in an investigation of a trainer by his Department and have resulted in a prosecution; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Imelda Munster: I want to get back to the passport backlog. Responses to parliamentary questions indicate that at the end of April, there were approximately 89,000 backlogged applications, with approximately 16,000 processed by 4 May. The Minister stated last Tuesday week that the backlog was on track to be cleared by the end of June. Is that still the case?

Imelda Munster: Did Mr. Burgess mention a figure of 104,000? How many of those are awaiting further information? I would imagine it is not a large percentage.

Imelda Munster: That is less than one fifth of the backlog of 104,000, which leaves 84,000. I ask this question because the Minister stated last week that 37,000 of the 89,000 had been processed and would be cleared by the end of June. Given that the backlog is even larger now, I suspect that it will more likely be the end of July or August before the backlog is cleared.

Imelda Munster: No, further information is awaited in only one fifth of the backlog. Is it more likely to be the end of July or August before the remainder are cleared?
