That the...
- Social Welfare and Pensions (No. 2) Bill 2009: Committee and Remaining Stages (11 Dec 2009)
Martin Ferris: The content of the budget delivered here on Wednesday has sent shock waves through those in the lower economic dependent sector of the State. The people affected drastically are those most in need. When one looks to a Government, no matter who is in Government, one looks for fairness, honesty and a sense of belonging. Significant trust is placed in those in positions of responsibility and...
- Carbon Budget: Statements (11 Dec 2009)

Climate change and, more fundamentally, adverse weather conditions are among the issues of immediate concern in Ireland in the light of the impact of the recent floods and concerns we are witnessing different and unusual patterns of rainfall that reflect global changes. Different agendas will be pushed in...
- Carbon Budget: Statements (11 Dec 2009)
Martin Ferris: It is also fairer than any other system because the right to emissions is shared equally among the population. Although the cost of energy and other goods would rise, due to fossil fuel producers having to pay for permits, this would be offset by the money individuals would earn from the sale of their PAPs. For most people, this would be greater than the increased cost of the energy they...

- Social Partnership Negotiations. (9 Dec 2009)
Martin Ferris: I watched the events of last week and the Government did a good job of stage managing the collapse of the talks with public sector unions. Was the so-called revolt by Fianna Fáil backbench Deputies over the proposal for unpaid leave a real revolt? Did it not suit the Taoiseach? Did the Taoiseach support the unpaid leave proposal and, if so, what action did he take to persuade his...

- Foreshore and Dumping at Sea (Amendment) Bill 2009 [Seanad]: Second Stage (3 Dec 2009)

As it stands, a number of issues have caused concern, particularly with regard to foreshore licenses. The case that immediately springs to mind is the controversy over the granting of the foreshore licence to the companies involved in the Corrib...

- Foreshore and Dumping at Sea (Amendment) Bill 2009 [Seanad]: Committee and Remaining Stages (3 Dec 2009)
Martin Ferris: I do not want to go back over what I stated already. I will press this amendment in the interests of democracy and local accountability. As Deputy Michael D.
