Order of Business (Resumed) (17 Nov 2009)

Joe Costello: It is a real question.

Order of Business (Resumed) (17 Nov 2009)

Joe Costello: It refers to the climate change Bill we will be introducing in 2010. It is now up in the air because, although there is to be a political decision of some description made in Copenhagen, there will be no legally binding deal. We have only now discovered this. It is not how it was supposed to be. I understood from the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, Deputy John...

Order of Business (Resumed) (17 Nov 2009)

Joe Costello: Did the Minister have any say in the new arrangements or has he been involved at all?

Order of Business (Resumed) (17 Nov 2009)

Joe Costello: Do we have a position on it?

Order of Business (12 Nov 2009)

Joe Costello: This is a very straightforward question relating to children's welfare. The Tánaiste may have seen recent reports where the Maclaren company, which produces children's goods, has had to recall a million child buggies in the United States because of the danger and damage to children's fingers. Some children had the tips of their fingers cut off by the buggies in the United States. When the...

Order of Business (12 Nov 2009)

Joe Costello: If the matter is serious enough for 1 million child buggies to be recalled in the United States, surely it is serious enough for the same items to be recalled in this country. What will the Tánaiste do about this situation? What will she do to strengthen the legislation so that the child protection principle that has pertained in the US also pertains here?

Order of Business (12 Nov 2009)

Joe Costello: If the piece of equipment that has been recalled in the United State is on sale in Ireland, surely there is a prima facie case for its recall.

Order of Business (12 Nov 2009)

Joe Costello: Is there a timescale for that?

EU Council Meetings. (11 Nov 2009)

Joe Costello: A good Irish candidate has declared for the position of President of the European Council and a number of candidates have declared their interest in the Commissioner position. I am sure the Taoiseach will do the right thing in the interests of the country in that respect. My question concerns the European Council meeting. I am pleased to see that there is a special summit on 19 December,...

Order of Business (11 Nov 2009)

Joe Costello: In light of the imprisonment earlier this year of a former lobbyist for corrupt practices relating to the planning process in this city-----

Order of Business (11 Nov 2009)

Joe Costello: -----and in regard to the bribing of public representatives and officials, I asked the Taoiseach yesterday about a commitment in the previous programme for Government to regulate the lobbying industry. The current programme for Government, agreed two and a half years later because nothing had happened in the meantime, has a renewed commitment to the regulation of lobbying. The Taoiseach...

Order of Business (11 Nov 2009)

Joe Costello: It continues: "He intends that his Department will constructively explore options with representatives of the lobbying industry to make progress with the most appropriate approach to the introduction of a register."

Order of Business (11 Nov 2009)

Joe Costello: That is not exactly a commitment to legislation so I ask the Taoiseach when we will get the legislation to regulate the lobbying industry, which has already been promised twice in the previous and current programme for Government?

Order of Business (11 Nov 2009)

Joe Costello: There was no mention of legislation last night.

Order of Business (11 Nov 2009)

Joe Costello: That is not accurate. My question relates to legislation. The reply I got did not refer to legislation at all.

Order of Business (11 Nov 2009)

Joe Costello: I am entitled to ask the Taoiseach about promised legislation.

Order of Business (11 Nov 2009)

Joe Costello: This has been promised twice and we still have not got it.

Order of Business (11 Nov 2009)

Joe Costello: I am waiting to hear the reply.
