- Public Accounts Committee: 2017 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 20 - An Garda Síochána
Chapter 7 - Management of Overtime Expenditure in An Garda Síochána (9 May 2019) Alan Farrell: The overtime is being incurred by both the Department of Children and Youth Affairs in Oberstown and the Department of Justice and Equality. I wished to highlight it in this forum because of a conversation I had in the past with Mr. Patrick Bergin, the director of Oberstown, in consultation with Inspector Twomey in Balbriggan. Perhaps that can be examined because it is important. If there...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Children and Youth Affairs: Women's Aid Impact Report 2018: Discussion (8 May 2019)
Alan Farrell: I have an observation to make on one of Ms Martin's closing remarks. She stated, "the consent of the abuser is needed for children to attend counselling" and she made reference to the children being witness to these incidents, which is horrifying to me, not only as a parent but as a parliamentarian as well. Is there a remedy for that aside from guardianship ad litem, which comes much later...

Alan Farrell: Change is required.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Children and Youth Affairs: Women's Aid Impact Report 2018: Discussion (8 May 2019)
Alan Farrell: How long does that delay the process in Ms Regan's experience, presuming that an order for a child to access counselling with only one parent's consent is granted?

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Children and Youth Affairs: Children's Rights Alliance Report Card 2019: Discussion (8 May 2019)
Alan Farrell: Thank you very much, Ms Ward. I will let Senator Freeman in presently because I know time is against her. I will be quick. I have some observations to make on which I seek your views. Lest I be accused of being party political, a C+ grade is not good enough for this State. An F grade on homelessness is disgraceful. Our national legacy of the treatment of Travellers, regardless of what...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Children and Youth Affairs: Children's Rights Alliance Report Card 2019: Discussion (8 May 2019)
Alan Farrell: Absolutely. We might take it upon ourselves to get in contact with the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport in relation to the issue. It would seem to be one of those costs that involves a net benefit to the State in the long run. Of course, we would need to determine what the cost is first. I thank Deputy Mitchell for that.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Children and Youth Affairs: Children's Rights Alliance Report Card 2019: Discussion (8 May 2019)
