- Data Centre Moratorium: Motion [Private Members] (29 Sep 2021)
Imelda Munster: Both the Minister and his Government are sleepwalking our country into a catastrophe. In the past week we heard from Dr. Patrick Bresnihan of NUI Maynooth who warned that if all the proposed data centres go ahead, they will account for up to 70% of our grid capacity by the end of the decade. In the same week the Tánaiste, Deputy Varadkar, sounded like a spokesperson for big tech when...
- Data Centre Moratorium: Motion [Private Members] (29 Sep 2021)
Imelda Munster: It is completely reckless that the local authorities responsible for giving planning permission do not take account of any of this. I said earlier that the Tánaiste was out talking on behalf of the tech companies and changing our policy. Obviously, others seated behind the Minister are also in favour of that.
- Data Centre Moratorium: Motion [Private Members] (29 Sep 2021)
Imelda Munster: This madness has to stop. When the lights go out in Drogheda and people are forced to wait for water tanks, the Deputy can speak because he will be directly responsible for it.
- Data Centre Moratorium: Motion [Private Members] (29 Sep 2021)
Imelda Munster: Will the Minister put an end to this madness before it is too late? He needs to do something before it is too late.
- Data Centre Moratorium: Motion [Private Members] (29 Sep 2021)
Imelda Munster: The Deputy is a spoofer.
- Hospital Waiting Lists: Motion [Private Members] (28 Sep 2021)
Imelda Munster: I am curious about the case of Sarah from Wicklow that the Minister has cited. It reflects part of the frustration over the HSE's management of funding and so on. He stated the funding to purchase the replacement joints Sarah needed was gone but the State was nonetheless paying for overheads and staff, with theatres closed. Was that changed there and then? The Minister is nodding. That...
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (28 Sep 2021)
Imelda Munster: I thank the Chair. That correspondence is now a couple of months old. I heard what the Chair said at the end of his contribution. I was about to suggest that we write requesting an update and see what progress had been made. The OPW is giving us quarterly reports. If we want to chase this specifically, we could write to it again for an update.
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (28 Sep 2021)
Imelda Munster: Following on from what Deputy Carthy said, I support the Chairman's proposal. On recommendation No. 2, I understand the Comptroller and Auditor General will do a special report on Covid procurement. Are there any plans to do similar reports on other areas of Covid-related spending?
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (28 Sep 2021)
Imelda Munster: Yes. I see that the Department is offering us a copy of the Galway 2020 monitoring and evaluation report. Perhaps the committee secretariat could outline the current situation with regard to correspondence and considerations. What does the Comptroller and Auditor General think is the best course of action?
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (28 Sep 2021)
Imelda Munster: The IHRB gave us an undertaking previously that CCTV would have been installed before the commencement of the 2022 season. Can we write to the IHRB to find out if that undertaking is still on target? Reading the correspondence does not give much comfort or faith in that regard. We were given that commitment and it would be worth our while to write and see if the board is still sticking to...
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (28 Sep 2021)
Imelda Munster: Yes, it is.
- Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (28 Sep 2021)
Imelda Munster: That is fine. We have not had anything back and I have concerns that Screen Ireland has not made contact with the individual in question. We will wait and see. I hope it will confirm that it has done so over the past week.
- Written Answers — Department of Housing, Planning, and Local Government: Housing Schemes (28 Sep 2021)
Imelda Munster: 141. To ask the Minister for Housing, Planning, and Local Government his views on the current situation in which the funding for housing adaptation grants is inadequate to cope with demand, leading to a situation in which many county councils have significant backlogs which have rolled over from 2020 and are causing long delays given his commitment to supporting elderly persons to live in...
- Written Answers — Department of An Taoiseach: Cybersecurity Policy (28 Sep 2021)
Imelda Munster: 194. To ask the Taoiseach if his Department’s IT infrastructure is monitored for security breaches on a 24/7 basis; and the guidance provided from Government on same. [45319/21]
- Written Answers — Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Animal Welfare (28 Sep 2021)
Imelda Munster: 869. To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine the number of cases involving animal welfare concerns that have come under the Animal Health and Welfare Act 2013; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [46808/21]
- Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statement 2020 and Related Matters: HSE (Resumed) (23 Sep 2021)
Imelda Munster: I will make two quick observations relating to my previous contribution. Mr. Reid said he had erred on the side of protecting the public and that is fine; we accept that. However, in the context of purchasing products not cleared for use by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, was he not doing the opposite with substandard ventilators, masks and sanitisers and all of that? ...
- Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statement 2020 and Related Matters: HSE (Resumed) (23 Sep 2021)
Imelda Munster: I ask Mr. Reid to furnish the committee with those details. I am asking in particular for the more than 900,000 people who have been waiting long periods.
- Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statement 2020 and Related Matters: HSE (Resumed) (23 Sep 2021)
Imelda Munster: The number is growing. Can Mr. Reid accept, in all fairness, that people are asking where the heck the money is going? These waiting lists show that it is certainly not going directly to the patients. As I stated, Covid did not cause the waiting lists; they were there all along. Would Mr. Reid agree that those waiting lists, from a public health service perspective, are an absolute scandal?
- Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statement 2020 and Related Matters: HSE (Resumed) (23 Sep 2021)
Imelda Munster: Yes, it is a combined total.
- Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statement 2020 and Related Matters: HSE (Resumed) (23 Sep 2021)
Imelda Munster: I accept that, but does Ms O'Connor accept that it is no comfort to the 900,000 people on waiting lists?
