- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: The Role of the Media and Communications in Actioning Climate Change: Discussion (Resumed) (13 Dec 2022)
Pauline O'Reilly: It goes back to the point I was left with at the end of my previous slot. I will not repeat everything I said, but essentially what RTÉ says it is doing through its political programmes is reflecting a debate, if a debate is there, on climate. The entire point of what was said in the opening statement is that RTÉ does not give equivalence to both sides, if there are two sides, and...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: The Role of the Media and Communications in Actioning Climate Change: Discussion (Resumed) (13 Dec 2022)
Pauline O'Reilly: I am not sure there is any point in coming back in, other than to say I am not talking about the climate programmes. I am talking about political programming. The latter is what more people listen to. Programmes are still giving equal weight to things that do not carry equal weight in terms of the science.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: The Role of the Media and Communications in Actioning Climate Change: Discussion (Resumed) (13 Dec 2022)
Pauline O'Reilly: I thank the representatives for their presentations. Deeming something as wrong or incorrect is the crux of the matter. When we look through many of the decisions, it seems they are concerned with where a false claim has been made as opposed to what I consider greenwashing, which is to undermine climate action in the consciousness of the public. That is the dangerous part of this...

- Seanad: Cuimhneachán ar Chothrom Céad Bliain an Chéad Suí de Seanad Éireann – 11 Nollaig 1922 - Commemoration of the Centenary of the First Sitting of Seanad Éireann – 11 December 1922 (12 Dec 2022)
Pauline O'Reilly: I welcome the Taoiseach, former Senators and all of our distinguished guests. To some, Seanad Éireann is familiar, small and almost cosy but I have seen, at close quarters, Ministers and officials squirm as they contend with lengthy debates in our Chamber. I have seen notes being passed from officials to Ministers as, hours into a debate, a Minister takes to his or her feet for the...
- Seanad: Statements on COP27 (8 Dec 2022)
Pauline O'Reilly: I thank the Minister for coming in. It is correct that while I listen to contributions from my colleagues, they are talking about local action. The Minister is passionate about that also. Historic action was taken at COP27 on the negotiation about loss and damage. I could spend my six minutes talking about that. The Minister himself and the public know that Ireland, represented by the...

- Seanad: Planning and Development and Foreshore (Amendment) Bill 2022: Second Stage (6 Dec 2022)
Pauline O'Reilly: I have long felt that An Bord Pleanála needed reform. I spoke at the oral hearing in relation to the ring road. Although I had no particular personal interest in it, I had an environmental interest. I will wait until our guests have left.
- Seanad: Planning and Development and Foreshore (Amendment) Bill 2022: Second Stage (6 Dec 2022)
Pauline O'Reilly: I have concerns around An Bord Pleanála regarding some of the decisions in particular. There are instances of the board's inspector being overruled. While the board is entitled to do that, it is happening all too often. That raises significant questions. Regarding the ring road in particular, before a decision was made by the High Court, An Bord Pleanála conceded that it had not...
