Seán Crowe: We heard stories from many families and nursing home staff, particularly earlier in the pandemic, that they felt abandoned. There was the lack of PPE and so on. Again we are hearing stories in the media of a possible tsunami of cases, litigation cases and so on. Is the HSE picking up that information? Has there been any discussions in that regard?

Seán Crowe: Staff shortages was one of the difficulties highlighted during this. Do the witnesses hear much about long Covid and staff still suffering from long-term symptoms? Is the incidence of this higher within nursing homes than in, say, the hospital setting or is it on a par, do we know?

Seán Crowe: I thank all of our witnesses. Some disturbing evidence was heard today about what was happening in nursing homes. The idea of waiting years for powers to investigate neglect and abuse is concerning. I hear what the witnesses are saying in that we are in a process that is dealing with that. There will be recommendations coming from the committee that we need to act on that much more...
