- National Debt (23 Mar 2011)
Pearse Doherty: I presume there will be supplementary questions.
- National Debt (23 Mar 2011)
Pearse Doherty: I refer to debt sustainability. The Minister stated we could arrive at a position in which the State's debt could become unsustainable and the programme for Government mentions a danger of this burden becoming unsustainable. Therefore, this is the position of the Government, not mine. I believe we have already reached that point, as do many other economists and, indeed, the bond markets....
- National Debt (23 Mar 2011)
Pearse Doherty: The Taoiseach announced he will not commit any further money other than the â¬10 billion already committed to the banks unless burden sharing is on the table. Will the Minister confirm that, regardless of the figure that emerges from the analysis next week, we will not put anything in excess of â¬10 billion into the banks unless burden sharing is achieved in this State?
- National Debt (23 Mar 2011)
Pearse Doherty: What is the figure?
- Order of Business (23 Mar 2011)
Pearse Doherty: The programme for Government and the Fine Gael general election manifesto referred to burden sharing in respect of banking debt. We are to have burden sharing and the Taoiseach has clearly stated in one of his first addresses that there will be no additional money put into the banking system other than the money already committed. We will have the stress tests later next week which will...
- Order of Business (23 Mar 2011)
Pearse Doherty: This legislation is promised. Given that the amendment I submitted on behalf of my party in December was defeated, that legislation will need to be amended. When is it proposed that this legislation will come before the House such that burden sharing could be applicable to senior bondholders within our banking system?
- Order of Business (23 Mar 2011)
Pearse Doherty: On a point of order-----
- Order of Business (23 Mar 2011)
Pearse Doherty: It is. As a relatively new Deputy, something struck me. I am asking about proposed legislation. The Minister for Finance will be answering questions later. When will the Government present to the Houses legislation on dealing with burden sharing with senior bondholders in our banks?

- Corporation Tax: Motion (22 Mar 2011)
Pearse Doherty: Tá mé buÃoch go bhfuil deis chainte agam ar an ábhar seo anocht. I dtús báire, nà cóir dúinn bheith san áit ina bhfuilimid anocht ar chor ar bith. Táimid anseo siocar go bhfuil polasaà lochtach glactha ag an Rialtas deireanach ó thaobh an phacáiste a fuair muid ón AE agus an IMF agus an polasaà lochtach a bhà ag an Rialtas sin agus páirtithe atá san Rialtas nua ó thaobh...
- Corporation Tax: Motion (22 Mar 2011)
Pearse Doherty: No, we do not.
- Corporation Tax: Motion (22 Mar 2011)
Pearse Doherty: That is not the case.
- Corporation Tax: Motion (22 Mar 2011)
Pearse Doherty: No, we did not. I ask the Minister of State to show some manners and listen to the debate. He should check the Official Report to ascertain which way Sinn Féin voted on the issue.
- Corporation Tax: Motion (22 Mar 2011)
Pearse Doherty: It is not in our manifesto. I can discuss the matter with the Minister of State later.
- Corporation Tax: Motion (22 Mar 2011)
Pearse Doherty: The Minister of State is getting uptight because a Department of Finance report sets out the options available to the State if the CCCTB is introduced. Given that he informed the House his Government will not allow the CCCTB to be introduced, there is no reason for him to become uptight. The Ernst & Young report was commissioned long before Ireland entered into an austerity pact with the...
- Order of Business (22 Mar 2011)
Pearse Doherty: During the lifetime of the previous Dáil, of which I was a Member, one of the parties now in government produced legislation relating to the filling of casual vacancies for membership of this House. Will this be included in the legislative programme that is due to be published in the next couple of weeks? I wish to declare a conflict of interests in this regard. As the Taoiseach is aware,...
- Nomination of Taoiseach (9 Mar 2011)
Pearse Doherty: Mar atá ráite ag ceannaire mo pháirtÃ, nà bheidh Sinn Féin ag tabhairt tacaÃochta do Enda Kenny mar Thaoiseach inniu. Nà rud pearsanta é seo. Tá an tÃr ag cros-bhealach agus tá an treo a ghlacfaimid san am atá amach romhainn Ãontach tábhachtach, nà dúinne atá inár suà anseo ach dos na daoine sa bhaile atá ag braith ar thús úr le todhchaà na tÃre. Tá eagla ormsa go...
- Nomination of Taoiseach (9 Mar 2011)
Pearse Doherty: It is clear that in the week that was spent discussing the programme for Government - this is why the incoming Taoiseach does not deserve the support of the House - there was greater concern about how to give a finance portfolio to the Labour Party than about how the promised 100,000 jobs would be created. There are no details in terms of the greatest issue facing the country, that is, how...
