Freedom of Information Bill 2021: Second Stage [Private Members] (3 Feb 2022)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Tá a lán rudaí sa reachtaíocht seo agus is trua go bhfuil an tAire Stáit á chur ar athló ar feadh naoi mí. Ba chóir dó an deis a thapú é seo a chur chuig coiste chun déileáil leis. Ag an gcoiste, d’fhéadfadh sé na leasuithe faoina bhfuil sé ag caint a thabhairt isteach nó na botúin atá...

Written Answers — Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection: Artists' Remuneration (3 Feb 2022)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: 67. To ask the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection the reason she has not taken action to date to improve the situation for artists with disabilities who cannot avail of Arts Council grants or receive fair payment for their art work without risking their stable basic supports, such as the disability allowance or blind pension being taken away; and if she will take action by...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: General Scheme of the Monuments and Archaeological Heritage Bill: Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage (3 Feb 2022)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: I welcome the presentations and in particular the discussion we have just had around the advisory council. Dr. Clinton might be able to continue that in his answers to me because it is an area where we could have North-South co-operation, given that the Border is a modern construct and we have the whole island in respect of archaeology. The hinterlands people stood in at the time did not...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: General Scheme of the Monuments and Archaeological Heritage Bill: Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage (3 Feb 2022)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: My question was not on the signage at Moore Street but that on national monuments-----

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: General Scheme of the Monuments and Archaeological Heritage Bill: Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage (3 Feb 2022)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: -----just so people do not have that defence of ignorance.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: General Scheme of the Monuments and Archaeological Heritage Bill: Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage (3 Feb 2022)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: It is an archaic measure. As far as I remember, three fifths of the ratepayers are required to make a change and there are no ratepayers anymore so it is virtually impossible to change the name of streets here in the city. There is an element of this that falls within the heritage brief so it is something we can look at. I do not know which Act it is.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: General Scheme of the Monuments and Archaeological Heritage Bill: Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage (3 Feb 2022)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Thank you very much but do not encourage me, Chairman.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: General Scheme of the Monuments and Archaeological Heritage Bill: Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage (3 Feb 2022)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: It is an area in which I have always had an interest, on a range of different fronts, including history and archaeology. I studied the latter in first year and my father was in the National Museum. There have been a wide range of influences on my life that have made me interested in this area. In terms of rural Ireland in particular, I understand a lot in terms of where the finds are and...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: General Scheme of the Monuments and Archaeological Heritage Bill: Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage (3 Feb 2022)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: We have talked about the Valletta Convention but there are three or four other conventions mentioned in the legislation. Head 45 refers to the UNIDROIT Convention on Stolen or Illegally Exported Cultural Objects. The next one is the UNESCO Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property. Many of these are quite...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: General Scheme of the Monuments and Archaeological Heritage Bill: Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage (3 Feb 2022)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: I am not seeking hundreds of thousands of people to be trampling over sites, but ours is now an open society and head 9 relates to the establishment of a register. If that register becomes available and a site is registered as attracting 130,000 visitors a year, whether there is a sign on it or not, the public will be entitled to know there is something there. The site will then get an...

Higher Education Authority Bill 2022: Second Stage (Resumed) (2 Feb 2022)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Ar dtús báire, tarraingím aird na dTeachtaí ar ainm an Bhille seo sa Bhéarla. Is é Higher Education Authority Bill 2022 an t-ainm atá air. Níl a leithéid de “higher education authority” luaite áit ar bith sa Bhille seo. Cruthaíodh eagras darbh ainm an tÚdarás um Ard-Oideachas. Is é sin an t-ainm atá...

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Níl aon ráiteas tosaigh againn ón Roinn Dlí agus Cirt ach b’fhéidir go bhfuil Doncha O'Sullivan ag iarraidh rud éigin a rá.
