Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: General Scheme of Sale of Tickets (Cultural, Entertainment, Sporting And Recreational Events) Bill 2020: Discussion (9 Dec 2020)

Richard Bruton: That has covered my questions. However, there appears to be some value in market clearance operations. Obviously, Ryanair has made its mark by being able to deliver lower cost by having this model of flexible pricing and so forth. What analysis has been done of the costs and benefits of getting rid of that type of market clearance approach?

National Surplus (Reserve Fund for Exceptional Contingencies) Act 2019: Motion (8 Dec 2020)

Richard Bruton: I thank the Minister for introducing this motion. It is appropriate and I fully support the concept that the rainy day fund should be used this year to deal with the significant crisis created by Covid. 5 o’clock Economic stabilisation is really important. However, while we are focused now on the urgency of dealing with Covid, we must also create space for embarking on what is a...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Brexit and Readiness of Businesses, Employees and Communities: Discussion (2 Dec 2020)

Richard Bruton: I thank our guests. I am on quorum duty in the convention centre, so I may have to dash if a bell rings. From the Government perspective, €5.4 billion has been set aside in the budget as a contingency and conscious of the fact that there are many uncertainties and that the Government has to be prepared for various eventualities to which we would have to respond. One of the important...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Brexit and Readiness of Businesses, Employees and Communities: Discussion (2 Dec 2020)

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Brexit and Readiness of Businesses, Employees and Communities: Discussion (2 Dec 2020)

Richard Bruton: I would like to raise an issue that has come up repeatedly, namely, the risk that regional areas will suffer disproportionately in a no-deal Brexit scenario. I know a rural plan is currently being developed, there are regional enterprise strategies and regional skills forums, the national broadband plan is being rolled out and there is substantial money set aside in the national development...

Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (1 Dec 2020)

Richard Bruton: Deputies are entitled to raise questions on the same issue.

Ceisteanna ar Reachtaíocht a Gealladh - Questions on Promised Legislation (1 Dec 2020)

Richard Bruton: I must point out that 20 questions might typically be allowed here. The Ceann Comhairle has allocated 11 of those exclusively to the Opposition while all Government backbenchers have had no opportunity to participate on an equal basis. That is not a reasonable approach. Creating a Standing Order that protects these questions is in the interest of the Members of the House more broadly.
