Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Housing for All: Discussion (13 Jun 2024)

John Cummins: I have sent it into the Housing Agency and we are trying to follow up on it. It is a particular case and if the landlord knew what the ballpark parameters of an offer was, the tenant would remain in the property subject to a negotiation either concluding or not as the case may be. At the moment, the landlord does not know whether he is coming or going in terms of an offer. He does not know...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Housing for All: Discussion (13 Jun 2024)

John Cummins: We have the planning Bill coming in to the Seanad in a couple of weeks. In the context of log cabins or pods, there seems to be huge discrepancies across the country as to how local authorities view those. Some are favourably disposed, some are site-dependent and some are outright opposed entirely. What is our view and how can we ensure uniformity here? Obviously, modern methods are a...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Housing for All: Discussion (13 Jun 2024)

John Cummins: Finally Minister, Deputy O'Brien, on the Croí Cónaithe cities fund mentioned in his opening statement and the 582 units in the context of that scheme, it is lower than what we would have hoped for in terms of the uptake of that scheme. Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government: Housing for All: Discussion (13 Jun 2024)

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (11 Jun 2024)

John Cummins: I echo the comments of many colleagues with regard to those who stood in elections - those were elected and those who were unsuccessful. It takes a huge amount of courage to put one's name on a ballot paper. We were delighted to gain a seat in Waterford and to be the largest party in local government on Waterford City and County Council. Two new councillors - Niamh O'Donovan and Jim...

Seanad: Housing Commission Report: Motion (29 May 2024)

John Cummins: I thank the Acting Chairperson. I welcome the Minister of State. Listening to the Sinn Féin representatives deliver their prepared speeches, one could forgive them for leaving out the fact that many of the things which are undoubtedly working and which were put in place by the Government have been shamelessly opposed by their party. Last year, 32,700 homes were delivered in this...
