- Select Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Estimates for Public Services 2024
Vote 29 - Environment, Climate and Communications (Further Revised Estimate) (26 Jun 2024) Martin Kenny: Regarding international co-operation around that, which is probably key to the effective ring-fencing of the security elements of it, is the Minister satisfied he is getting enough traction there and that there is enough co-operation not just across Europe but globally? Many of these actors are well outside the countries we would consider to have democratic norms?

Vote 29 - Environment, Climate and Communications (Further Revised Estimate) (26 Jun 2024) Martin Kenny: Has the Minister's Department recognised any recent attempted attacks on critical infrastructure in the State, or have there been any close calls in respect of that?
- Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation (26 Jun 2024)
Martin Kenny: The hydrotherapy swimming pool in Sligo was closed a number of years ago. I wrote to the Minister in respect of this matter. Deirdre, a woman of advanced years, spoke to me about her daughter, who is 47 and wheelchair-bound. The only way she can exercise properly is in a hydrotherapy swimming pool. She used to use the one in Cregg House, which was quite close to where she lives. Cregg...
- Primary School Funding: Motion [Private Members] (26 Jun 2024)
Martin Kenny: Last week, a number of teachers in the audiovisual room spelled out to us in great detail the situation with primary school funding. All of us across every constituency are very aware of this. We deal with schools up and down the country that are in dire circumstances, particularly in the area of special needs education. We have waiting lists there and families trying to find a classroom...

[26955/24]

- Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation (20 Jun 2024)
Martin Kenny: Yesterday many of us went over to Buswell's Hotel where the Irish Cancer Society held an event to speak about its pre-budget submission on the many issues for cancer patients throughout the country. One of the issues I was struck by was raised by two radiation therapists I met there, one from Dublin and one from Galway. They spoke about the large shortfall in radiation therapists throughout...

- Child Care (Amendment) Bill 2024: Second Stage (19 Jun 2024)
Martin Kenny: From discussions I have had recently with childminders who mind children and provide a service in their own homes, while they accept the need for change and have no difficulty with it, there is a certain scepticism and difficulty with this Bill. They fear being overburdened with regulation. One person I spoke to asked whether visitors coming to their home would have to be vetted. Those...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Summer Plans for Dublin and Cork Airports: DAA (19 Jun 2024)
Martin Kenny: I thank the witnesses for their presentation. Some of the issues have been dealt with. Returning to the car parking spaces, what is the prospect of getting a lease agreement on the deal the DAA did that did not work out? Is there any progress in respect of that which would relieve the immediate situation?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Summer Plans for Dublin and Cork Airports: DAA (19 Jun 2024)
Martin Kenny: Is that a legal problem it has with anyone or just with DAA?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Summer Plans for Dublin and Cork Airports: DAA (19 Jun 2024)
Martin Kenny: It is regrettable, to say the least. Mr. Jacobs mentioned that 35% or more of people are using the bus for the airport. That works for some people but, for an awful lot of people, the option is not there. It is the only international airport on the island with no rail. The bus is fine but it does not suit an awful lot of people. We need to see the metro happen but it will take time....
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Summer Plans for Dublin and Cork Airports: DAA (19 Jun 2024)
Martin Kenny: On the issue of choice as it relates to Cork and other more regional airports, what more can be done? I understand there is one major airport in the country. It is the one that has the most flights and gets the most traffic. It is obviously where the carriers want to move from and to, but we have the resources of the other airports. We have capacity at Cork Airport, which is represented...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Summer Plans for Dublin and Cork Airports: DAA (19 Jun 2024)
Martin Kenny: Are there any issues at the other airports with regard to noise? There is clearly a problem in Dublin. I respect that it was said the noise level is more or less where it used to be, or where it was planned to be or set out in the planning, but an awful lot of the public living in that area feel that it is a lot "more" than it is "less". That is a problem. If we were to see expansion in...
- Hospitality and Tourism Sector: Motion [Private Members] (19 Jun 2024)
Martin Kenny: I thank the proposers of the motion for tabling it. The tourism and hospitality sectors are vital industries in many parts of the country where there is little else to employ people or provide them with opportunities. For a long time now, particularly during the Covid pandemic, the sector has faced a huge difficulty in trying to survive. Many of its members were very grateful for the...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Circular Economy as it relates to Consumer Durables: Discussion (18 Jun 2024)
Martin Kenny: I thank both speakers for their opening statements. The direction of travel here is clear. We need to see more of the goods and products that are sold being repairable and options being put in place for people. A lot of goods, particularly electronic goods, are imported from outside of the European Union. Some are CE certified while some are not. How will that play into all of this?...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Circular Economy as it relates to Consumer Durables: Discussion (18 Jun 2024)
Martin Kenny: In that case, the distributor would be obliged to ensure the product he or she is selling is repairable. That obligation follows back up the line and it is likely that unrepairable goods would be cut out of the chain.
