- Northern Ireland Issues. (26 Apr 2006)
Enda Kenny: To follow on Deputy Rabbitte's question, I welcome the report of the IMC, which points to further progress regarding the IRA fulfilling its commitments. I urge the DUP, in particular, to use the opportunity presented by the forthcoming recall of the Assembly to engage further in dialogue that might bring about further trust before the recall of the Executive later in the year. Does the...
- Leaders' Questions. (26 Apr 2006)
Enda Kenny: I recall the incident which occurred 20 years ago in Chernobyl and our thoughts and prayers are with the people of the Ukraine. On this day 20 years ago 80 miles north of Kiev, a fireball exploded in one of four reactors, affecting not only ecosystems, human genes and the entire northern hemisphere but also the collective psyche of the developed western world. As the Government is aware, we...
- Leaders' Questions. (26 Apr 2006)
Enda Kenny: The Taoiseach has responded on what the Government has been doing about this. The advice given to the Government and the decision it took on the closure of Sellafield was to proceed through the United Nations, which was the incorrect approach. What is the status of the Government's case against Britain for the closure of Sellafield? I hope the national emergency plan will never be tested....

Enda Kenny: Question 342: To ask the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the funding mechanisms which are available for local game angling clubs to carry out development and enhancement work, for example regeneration of spawning grounds; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14799/06]

Enda Kenny: Question 981: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government if he will clarify the management of fishing at Glenveagh National Park, County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14797/06]
- Order of Business. (25 Apr 2006)
Enda Kenny: I note that the Government Whip has produced a list of 16 Bills to be published by the end of the summer session. The document for the spring session contained 17 Bills, eight of which were not published. There are eight new Bills in section A. Will the Government publish those 16 Bills in the next session of ten or 12 weeks? On the last three or four occasions, the Government failed to...
- Order of Business. (25 Apr 2006)
Enda Kenny: I will explain to the Ceann Comhairle why it is relevant. At the weekend, the Government's coalition partners threw out a â¬5 billion speculative inducement in taxation.
- Order of Business. (25 Apr 2006)
Enda Kenny: That is the very question I wished to ask. In view of the fact the ESRI has made that recommendation to the Government, might we have a debate on the report in the House? Perhaps the Taoiseach might confirm that the Government will adhere to the recommendations of the ESRI report and that there will be no splurge. When is it proposed to publish the Bill regarding administrative fines for...
- Order of Business. (25 Apr 2006)
Enda Kenny: Eight of them.
- Departmental Advertising. (25 Apr 2006)
Enda Kenny: Question 1: To ask the Taoiseach the costs which have accrued to his Department since June 2002 in respect of newspaper advertisements; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9149/06]
- Departmental Advertising. (25 Apr 2006)
Enda Kenny: Not only did the national development plan advertisement campaign feature two full-page advertisements in all newspapers, but the population at large was exposed to the visages of a number of Ministers, particularly the Minister for Finance, Deputy Cowen, and the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Deputy Martin. While I realise it is difficult to separate on a consistent basis...
- Departmental Advertising. (25 Apr 2006)
Enda Kenny: It does, but it is party to the advertisement. Sometimes these issues are inseparable. Two full page advertisements in all newspapers were used to put out the message. How much did that cost? Was the cross-departmental team on public private partnerships, which includes the Taoiseach's Department, involved in drawing up the advertisements? Is there a genuine value in using the faces of...
- Departmental Advertising. (25 Apr 2006)
Enda Kenny: I could reverse the question, if the Ceann Comhairle wishes to be technical. Is there any value in the advertisements in the absence of the Taoiseach's face? The Taoiseach will be aware, on the basis of cases raised previously, especially those involving Ministers of State, that there is clearly potential for abuse in this area.
- Departmental Advertising. (25 Apr 2006)
Enda Kenny: That may not be the Taoiseach's intention. I raise this issue because if the public is to be informed about developments under the national development plan, including those led by the Taoiseach's Department, it is not necessary to insert Ministers' faces in the advertisements for which the public pays. Perhaps he will respond to that.
- Departmental Advertising. (25 Apr 2006)
Enda Kenny: They do not need to put the Taoiseach's face on them, as he is known well enough at this stage.
- Departmental Advertising. (25 Apr 2006)
Enda Kenny: I agree with the Taoiseach that the advertisements should be about public information. However, from the Opposition's point of view, the advertisements could be restructured so that Ministers would state the items they have not yet delivered under the national development plan, which are seven years behind schedule, and which they propose to undertake over the next 18 months.
- Departmental Advertising. (25 Apr 2006)
Enda Kenny: I have gone off the runway.
- Commemorative Events. (25 Apr 2006)
Enda Kenny: Question 6: To ask the Taoiseach the arrangements for the commemoration of the 1916 Easter Rising; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12889/06]
- Commemorative Events. (25 Apr 2006)
Enda Kenny: I agree with the Taoiseach that the commemoration of 1916 was a successful occasion. While I had to remind the Taoiseach of the necessity for inclusiveness in the work of all politicians in the run-up to that celebration, the conduct on Easter Sunday was entirely apolitical and provided an opportunity for a demonstration by the Defence Forces and an opportunity for them to be thanked for the...
