- Seanad: Disability Bill 2004: Committee Stage. (14 Jun 2005)
Mary O'Rourke: The Minister of State was in the Department of Education and Science when I was the Minister in that Department and when this process started. The difficulty is getting the professional staff that will be needed to meet all the requirements that will be shown up by the assessment. One can compel a Government to give a timeframe but, sadly, that timeframe might not be capable of being complied...

Mary O'Rourke: On my own behalf and that of my party, I wish to express sympathy on the death of a former Cathaoirleach of the House, Mr. Seán Doherty. Our thoughts are with his widow, Maura, and his daughters Rachel, Leah, Evelyn and Cara. We are all aware of the strong and sometimes turbulent career of Seán Doherty. I was aware of it, in particular, because he was from the neighbouring constituency. I...

Mary O'Rourke: On Tuesday, 14 June 2005. I thank everyone who contributed to make the debate very worthwhile. Mary O'Rourke: If the disabled person was able to speak that was fine and if not the care assistant spoke for him or her, interpreting the needs. It was a wonderful experience. I previously went to Kinnegad and met the group when its members were struggling â they are still struggling because anybody in that area is always struggling. Knowing they have someone by their side who is going to attend to their...

Mary O'Rourke: It is not being held up by us. To say the Bill is with the Seanad is incorrect, it is not. It has gone somewhere and has not come back. He proposed the provision of a Garda ombudsman similar to thePolice Ombudsman for Northern Ireland,...

I cast no fault...
