- Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Gorse Burning (11 Mar 2021)
Jennifer Whitmore: I thank the Minister of State. I welcome that national parks are being tasked with more intensive targeted measures, but, unfortunately, it seems to me like it is more of the same. Each year this happens, there are calls for more penalties and greater investigations, but each year it happens. We need a rethink and to look again at how we are managing this problem because the solutions that...
- Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Gorse Burning (11 Mar 2021)
Jennifer Whitmore: I thank the Minister of State for coming to the House. As he is aware, just four days ago, on Sunday 7 March, 18 firefighters, two Civil Defence units and the National Parks and Wildlife Service tackled a large gorse fire at Scarr Mountain in County Wicklow. This fire ended up scorching 50 ha of land designated as special area of conservation, which is our national park in Wicklow. These...

- Ceisteanna (Atógáil) - Questions (Resumed) - Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Legislative Process (10 Mar 2021)
Jennifer Whitmore: It has been 83 days since the committee handed back the recommendations so I hope the time the Minister has taken has been to incorporate those recommendations, not to get rid of them. The frustrating thing for me is the sense of urgency with this. There was a huge sense of urgency in getting this Bill up and running. I do not know if the Minister can picture that image by the Spanish...
- Ceisteanna (Atógáil) - Questions (Resumed) - Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Legislative Process (10 Mar 2021)
Jennifer Whitmore: For a lot of what we are trying to get into place, infrastructural changes will be required and there are lead-in times for that. The Government has a target of 2030 as the next major step. We had the transport discussions yesterday with the climate committee. It came as a surprise to me that when the National Transport Authority is putting in applications for Government funding or putting...

Jennifer Whitmore: It reflects the importance of the Bill in question that it is also the subject of my priority question. I would also like to ask the Minister for an update on the Bill. To take it a bit further, what are the actual delays with it? The Minister has said that considerable work has gone into it. When the committee first received the document, the Minister hoped for a two week pre-legislative...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Decarbonising Transport: Discussion (Resumed) (9 Mar 2021)
Jennifer Whitmore: I thank the witnesses for appearing before the committee. My questions are primarily for Ms Graham. Mr. Creegan mentioned that the national cycle manual was being updated. When will that be completed? There is significant funding going into infrastructure and cycleways at the moment and there is a fear that it is being used to create cycleways based on a document that is ten years old....

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Decarbonising Transport: Discussion (Resumed) (9 Mar 2021)
Jennifer Whitmore: It seems we have this plan to reduce our emissions without calculating whether we are investing in the right things and have no idea when it will happen. There are long delays and lead in times. I find it unusual we are not taking that into account.
