Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2021: Inland Fisheries Ireland (6 Jul 2023)

Verona Murphy: But there was nothing in writing.

Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2021: Inland Fisheries Ireland (6 Jul 2023)

Verona Murphy: On that basis, why did Mr. O'Donnell feel the need to pay back the subsistence if he was categoric that he did not do it unilaterally and had the agreement of the former chair?

Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2021: Inland Fisheries Ireland (6 Jul 2023)

Verona Murphy: I am sure they were.

Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2021: Inland Fisheries Ireland (6 Jul 2023)

Verona Murphy: Of course I would. I just wonder why it took so long and why it needed to be pointed out to someone in Mr. O'Donnell's position. Why did that need to be pointed out? These are basic rules relating to public office.

Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2021: Inland Fisheries Ireland (6 Jul 2023)

Verona Murphy: Those were different times, I agree-----

Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2021: Inland Fisheries Ireland (6 Jul 2023)

Verona Murphy: That was one error. There was an accumulation of errors that make IFI look like a basket case. For a start, there were uninsured vehicles, which I, as someone who operated as a haulier for years, find incredible, to be honest. It is a jailable offence. The other thing is the leasing of the cottage. Was Mr. O'Donnell aware of that?

Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2021: Inland Fisheries Ireland (6 Jul 2023)

Verona Murphy: I know. Would Mr. O'Donnell take responsibility that there was a comedy of errors within IFI?

Verona Murphy: Does Mr. O'Donnell take any responsibility for that?

Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2021: Inland Fisheries Ireland (6 Jul 2023)

Verona Murphy: Mr. O'Donnell would be happy that there is nobody claiming travel subsistence within the organisation but would have use of a fuel card categorically.

Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2021: Inland Fisheries Ireland (6 Jul 2023)

Verona Murphy: Mr. O'Donnell would have already stated to employees that should not happen, given his own brush with subsistence and repaying money. There would probably have been a sit-down with everybody to say that IFI needs to have the height of good governance and conduct.

Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2021: Inland Fisheries Ireland (6 Jul 2023)

Verona Murphy: That only-----

Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2021: Inland Fisheries Ireland (6 Jul 2023)

Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2021: Inland Fisheries Ireland (6 Jul 2023)

Verona Murphy: Mr. O'Donnell would cross-check-----

Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2021: Inland Fisheries Ireland (6 Jul 2023)

Verona Murphy: -----if there was any form of subsistence claim with fuel purchase. He cross-checks that all the time.

Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2021: Inland Fisheries Ireland (6 Jul 2023)

Verona Murphy: Ms Bradley would be happy to state categorically that there could be no cross between a claim for subsistence and use of the fuel cards.

Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2021: Inland Fisheries Ireland (6 Jul 2023)

Verona Murphy: That is grand.

Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation (5 Jul 2023)

Verona Murphy: Some eight months ago, in November, a freak tornado swept through south County Wexford, in particular in areas like Clongeen and Foulkesmill, leaving a trail of pure and utter devastation. To date, the people affected by this event have been lied to by local Fianna Fáil councillors, continually fobbed off and passed from one Minister to the next with no sight of any meaningful...

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Control of Firearms (5 Jul 2023)

Verona Murphy: I am sorry but the Minister of State has failed to address any of the questions contained within. He knows well that the only person who could have been regarded an expert resigned from that committee with the damning statement that he believed the committee was a farce. I do not know how the Minister of State, in an advisory capacity, can then use reports on foot of the only expert on that...

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Control of Firearms (5 Jul 2023)

Verona Murphy: Why did he move away from the model?
